This was the second time we have used TravelLocal to plan our trips. and again we think our recent trip to Alberta and British Columbia was a 5* experience. We were particularly impressed by the service we received from the team at Terra Canada and Alaska. They put together an excellent itinerary having listened to our plans and interests very carefully. We are very keen wildlife watchers; especially keen on birds. Two Guides were found for us to enable us to visit the less touristy parts of Alberta. All of the arrangements worked and we were not let down once despite a number of changes resulting from the effects of the wildfires in Jasper. For example we had to change our hotel reservations in Banff from a 2day to a 4day stay. Terra Canada found us an excellent hotel that could accommodate us at a very late stage before starting the trip. We went on 2 coach tours out of Banff which were very enjoyable. One of the trip highlights was the two day Rocky Mountaineer train experience from Banff to Vancouver. Once on board we were treated very well and supplied with lots of delicious food and drinks - including alcoholic beverages. We were glad we booked the Silver class and not the Gold- it's still the same landscape no matter what class you're in! Terra found us a very comfortable hotel, the Loden, in downtown Vancouver. The next part of our journey was up to Campbell River on Vancouver island for one night before flying off to the splendid Knight Inlet Lodge which is situated in the valley of the same name. Our aim was do bear and whale watching and we were not disappointed. The staff at the lodge were excellent, the food was truly fantastic, the accommodation perfect and the arrangements around the transfers very efficient. We saw 3 bears in total feeding on the salmon that were moving upstream to spawn. On our two days of whale watching we had wonderful views of humpback whales and 3 orcas. Our First Nation boat captain, being born and raised in the area, knew where to look for them and he also tracked down a friendly sea otter called Leonard! Our one disappointment was that the guides at the lodge were not particular specialists in birds but that didn't spoil their enthusiasm for spotting and learning about them! They were however very knowledgeable about the bears and marine mammals. We returned to Vancouver for another night at the Loden hotel before flying back to London. All in all a wonderful two-week holiday with very many happy memories. Thank you to the team at Terra Canada and Alaska - you did us proud! Our thanks also go to TravelLocal for the effectivness of their payment systems and for putting us in touch with Terra Canada. Michael and Colleen, UK
