I thought Trust Pilot were a review company, only to realise that they are a business promotion & marketing company to promote the brand of paying companies.
For example, take ebay who favour the buyer on their website and sellers are at a disadvantage. If a buyer posts a negative feedback on ebay it up to the seller to prove it wrong. Trust Pilot are the opposite, they favour the companies. So if you post negative feedback about a company then it is the reviewer that has to prove that the negative review is correct. Looking at other reviews online proving the negative feedback right is a very difficult task.
Trustpilot's business model is completely in the favour of the companies being reviewed on the site. This is the reason that many companies that have a poor rating on other review sites have a good rating on Trustpilot.
All a company has to do on Trustpilot to get good reviews is to be actively flagging negative reviews as dishonest and Trustpilot will instantly remove the negative reviews. Reviewers then have a chance to prove the negative review is correct, but searching online and getting feedback from other users, this seems to be a difficult task. For a company to get a good rating, all the company has to do is either post fake positive reviews or get customers who are happy to post their reviews. This method will easily get a bad company worth 1 star have a rating between 8 - 10 stars.
