we went on a family trip to Peru - amazon jungle, inca trail/machu pitchu, lake titicaca, etc. Overall, we really enjoyed the whole experience. The only downside was that 3 members of the group (including my daughter and myself) got food poisoning during the inca trail. What traspired was that the tour guide/porters did not have an adequate medical kit with them, they were not really geared for dealing with medical emergencies with the result that we had to track back down to the nearest town with English speaking medical doctor (which was some 7 hours away) which meant that we wasted a lot our holiday time and money. To us, it seemed that the separate Inca trail guide was more concerned about the tip that we were going to give him/porters than the well-being of the tourists!
