Draper 2.8/3.2kw 95204 Inverter Generator.
I've never owned or operated a mobile generator before so this review is probably a bit basic for most people already familiar with genny operation.
The first thing you should do is check the Draper website for updates to the instruction manual. Where the manual refers to modes S1 and S2, this is executed automatically by the genny, and where it mentions the 'throttle economy switch' this actually refers to the choke lever.
Filling and Checking Engine Oil.
The manual doesn't specify whether synthetic, partial synthetic etc. oil should be used, so I assumed it wasn't important and I used part synthetic 15W-40 motor oil and hoped for the best. The section in the manual could explain the filling procedure a little better, but with some trial and error, I intend to use the procedure below when refilling and checking the oil level.
Before filling with oil, incline the socket side of the genny by raising the feet 2 inches and you'll get the recommended amount of oil into the sump without any of it pouring back out. Filling with oil is a little awkward due to the positioning of the sump opening. I modified a plastic funnel by cutting part of the side off to make this easier, but a funnel with a flexible spout might be better. After the oil has been added, keep the genny inclined and screw the dipstick back in fully then remove. Note that exactly 0.6 litres of oil marks halfway on the dipstick. Never check the oil with the genny on a level surface as oil will pour back out of the filling port.
Choke
I applied a small drop of general lubricating oil where the choke lever meets the part on the carburetor to give the movement a smoother action as it felt a little sticky.
Fuel
Draper says the genny is E10 petrol compatible and they advise that the fuel is drained completely when not in use.
Earth
The manual states that the genny must be earthed so I bought a 4ft x 9mm copper earthing rod, a cable clamp and a length of 10mm2 sheathed earth wire. The rod was driven into the ground and the cable attached to the Earth connection point on the genny and the other end to the rod.
Starting
The genny started for the first time after just one pull of the cord. I closed the choke off completely after about 3 seconds after which the revs increased to full running speed. I plugged in an extension cord and used it to power a 1400W pressure washer which it handled easily.
Conclusion
The genny looks great and is light enough to carry for medium distances. I have only used it once but it performed very well for about an hour. I recommend this generator.
