Trevor
I am 75 years old and have been driving for 54 years in a variety of vehicles from aircraft towing tractors to Minis. My current car is a Jaguar 3 litre XF. I was given this Jaguar E-type Thrill as a Christmas present and having never been to event like this I had expectations of an interesting day. I am sorry to say that the experience did not live up to my expectations. My "Thrill" was at 4 pm and I arrived just before 3 pm. Reception was OK, apart from the fact that you had my surname incorrect, but after that there was little to do, and nowhere to sit until the briefing at 3:40 pm. Briefing was OK but the disappointment started when I went on the familiarisation bus ride and discovered how short the circuit was. Our group then went back to the Pits and stood in the drizzle waiting for our drives. I was second in the E-type and after the briefing by the instructor we went out on to the circuit. Driving round the circuit was not difficult and it was a good experience but it soon became apparent how short the circuit really was. It was so short that on both of the straights I was still accelerating at about 65 mph in 3rd gear when we got to the Brakes board for the next corner. (I didn't know how fast we were going because the speedo needle was swinging wildly, something I haven't seen for many years.) Six laps on this course were not enough. I think it would be better if the length of the circuit was doubled and the number of laps reduced to four. When we returned to the Pits the instructor said "Well done" and handed me my card. I was expecting more in the way of feedback and was not sure what "Well done" meant. Was I good or bad. I thought that £20 for a CD of the photos was expensive and £35 for the movie even more so. There were 10 photos and they all seemed to have been taken from the same point on the circuit. When I gave my card and memory stick to the man who was making the CDs he said "Only 5 laps?" because the instructor had drawn only four vertical lines and one horizontal line on the card. He then said "Oh, no, it's six", but it still looks like five to me. One final thing. As a restorer of 1960's railway carriages for a Heritage Railway I do not like what you have done to the front of what has been described as the most beautiful sports car ever. ...Trevor Nicholson
