Ms Kennett
Went into the shop with my mum, in Shrewsbury, told them I need a carpet removed, underlay, removal of old carpet & rubbish, the new carpet, and furniture moved. Prepared to pay extra. Found the one I wanted & I was to pay 80.00 extra to have furniture removed on the day, by the fitter's. Told him the furniture is really heavy & that as I'm disabled I couldn't do any of that or help in any way. The man said yes, fitters (plural) are well trained, can do that no issue, pay THEM --(again plural) the extra on delivery. Great!! Yeah right. So yesterday the carpet fitter arrives ON his own. They sent 1 MAN to move extremely heavy furniture by himself. WHO had NO idea that he was supposed to do this. He complained that my furniture was very heavy, IMPOSSIBLE to move by himself. So my mum said do you need help, he said yes. They moved my furniture together. This was previously discussed in the shop. My mum is also physically disabled. So I decide to call the shop. I told the shop what was happening. The shop said it was written in DETAIL what we'd spoken about and that the fitter knew well in advance. He rang me back after talking to the fitter who denied needing help & said my mum, a physically disabled woman had just decided to interfere, without his knowledge. He said to me what exactly do you EXPECT me to do? The fitter is telling me you're lying. The shop assistant's Rude, arrogant dismissive behaviour had me enraged. My mum took the phone out of my hand as I'm about to thrown the damn thing I'm flapping at this point, I'm stimming & pacing the floor, losing the plot. I told the man I am autistic and need things to go smoothly, we had planned this 6 weeks in advance. He repeatedly said we'll what do you expect me to do? He then proceeded to tell my mum, the fitter said you purposly interfered, my mums got arthritis, hip and back mobility issues. She's in pain constantly, so moving furniture isnt something she volunteers to do UNLESS A emergency, as this HAS left her in agony. MY mum tells him that is NOT what happened but the shop assistant just says there is nothing he can do. The worst customer service I've received. He said he'd call her back. Next thing the fitter comes in and says the shop had just rang and had a go at him. He said why did you complain about me? So we explained, he said well its my 1st week on the job, it doesn't look good does it? "It's not my fault, you complaining makes me look bad" "He said who sold it you? Was it Chris? he has done this before" "They're saying I forced a old lady to move furniture" My mum said well you said you couldn't move it on your own. He then has the audacity to say "do you want me to lay the carpet or not?" I said well that's what we paid for, he goes What?? Well I'm not here to abused. I said I'm not abusing you, I complained to the shop, he said "yes but they have had a go at me". I said that is NOT me abusing you, and he said well this isn't my fault, Chris has mis sold this. They will fire me if you carry on complaining, trying to manipulate us. I couldn't speak, I had a meltdown at this point unable to cope. He comes back in later and says to my mum, look at the paper work and on it in the tiniest scribble, it says need fitter to move & handle furniture, he says he wasn't aware, and that a van had blown up yesterday and he thinks this job wasn't meant for him but two other guys. He explained a bit and it appears it's not even the guys fault it's the shops. He said he would take £60 not £80. I'm still not happy mind as my mums in physical discomfort and I'm stressed beyond words. He fit the carpet to a good standard. However did not ask if we wanted to hoover before putting the furniture back as there was a huge mess on the floor, he did not tidy at all. He then proceeded to put the furniture back HIMSELF proving he never needed my mums help and had complained for nothing. He left a huge mess in the hallway. Then as he goes to leave, he was going to leave the other rubbish behind, old carpet etc even though the man told us the fitters would take it & dispose of it. He said the shop told him not to do that and that he could face a fine for doing so, but would do so, Just on this occasion, but asjed me not to file a complaint because they would see him as a troublemaker. He also took the full 80 and didn't discount as he first said he would. He asked if I had a cat, stating he'd lived where I was before and that they didn't allow animals. I said yes I was approved. He said it was unusual, this felt almost threatening, that if I made a complaint against the company, he would report me. It was too personal and I didn't like this at all. It may have not being the case, either way he made me feel uncomfortable. Anyways He left and I hoovered my room before bring my things back in. I noticed there were screws by the window and he'd only left the cutting materials, wooden planks with screws in them on the windowsill. I cut my hand, because he never told us and I was unaware. If I hadn't of noticed and my cat had jumped up, we'd be at the vets today. I am not impressed by his work, or the shops customer service. The carpet is the only good thing that came out of it. He asked me Not to make a complaint because he feared losing his job I'm so stressed. The carpet looks lovely. I had planned and already being quoted a price to pay in November to have my other room done. But will not be using this company ever again and would warn anyone not to.
