Don't ever expect any kind of redress using Unite the Union even if you've got a decade + worth of membership under your belt. They don't care, they won't fight your corner, they are paid off staffers once they get in touch with your employer or HR department. One of the tricks of the game they employ with your employer against you is the union man won't attend your grievance meeting if your company is based outside of your home postcode, and your employer won't delay your meeting regards if you don't have the representation you've paid for. 14 years ago when Unite brought out the older Union "Amicus" they were still a better outfit who had morals and respect for their members, but now you can forget it. Corruption is rife. Do yourself a big favour and cancel your membership today and save yourself £180 per year. UKAS is also useless but they are free when you have employment issues.
