Volumio is a wonderful software. Thank you Volumio Team! For the last few years, I have been using Jriver Media Center, which I like very much. A couple of weeks back, just out of curiosity, I looked around for similar solutions and Volumio popped up. I downloaded Volumio, installed on USB stick and booted from the dedicated Jriver PC running Windows 10. Not really expecting much, but nonetheless very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get Volumio running without changing anything on my Jriver PC. The 4TB local disk and the 3TB media NAS were immediately recognized by Volumio. And then came the sound check! I was stunned at the quality difference. So much so, that I spent the day listening to classical, jazz and rock music on Volumio. Last week, I got myself a Raspberry Pi 4 B 4GB for Volumio. And now, I am convinced. Volumio is my music server of choice :-) I think what makes Volumio better than the system I have been using, is the fact that Volumio is embedded as an OS with just the relevant features of Debian. Running a music server on a bulky OS like Windows 10 has the disadvantage of any number of processes (irrelevant for the music server software) running in the background and degrading music quality.
