Because they are handy to use. What is completely unacceptable is that Vype sold me - and is still selling - a product for which it no longer produces refills. So when my current stock of tips is exhausted, I will be left with something that I have to throw away. I spoke to customer service. No offer of compensation. Very poor, and unethical business practice.
