Waitrose has always been my supermarket of choice, and their customer service has always been spot-on in my experience, but I'm writing this review because they went above-and-beyond in response to a complaint. I ordered four food items which were advertised at a weight around 7.5% larger than the actual weight stated on the packaging; this was a new item so I understood this to be an incorrect listing. I emailed Waitrose customer service regarding this, expecting at most a refund for the items, which were worth around £10. Instead, Waitrose sent me a gift card for £24. I didn't need to hassle them for this; I simply sent one email to customer service and received the gift card through mail a few days later.
I've been shopping with Waitrose for most of the last decade. My first experience with Waitrose was when I moved to Ipswich for a couple of years, and spent some time shopping at both the little Waitrose in the town centre, and the larger out-of-town Waitrose, before moving back up north and using predominantly online shopping. On the rare occasion that there is a mistake with my order, I have been refunded without question. When an item isn't available within the correct use-by date, it is given for free as a reduced item. If you are a Waitrose member, you receive vouchers worth a significant amount (I currently hold vouchers worth £18 off of a £100 order). The majority of items are priced the same as other supermarkets, so these savings aren't just money off of overpriced goods, they're real. Finally, as Waitrose is part of an employee-owned cooperative, there is some satisfaction in knowing that the people you deal with have a genuine stake in providing you a good service, and that your money is going 100% towards the people who work for the company.
