We bought two Ridgeback Scoot XL 14" bikes from WeeBikeshop (and their subdealer Jump Start Bikes) for our twins in Dec. 2017. I know bikes well from experience and after two years of our kids riding these from age 4-6 we can't say enough good things about the design, materials, construction, and functionality of them. It's 100% true they are made like grownup bikes but sized down -- with no weight limit and a huge range in child height/size due to the regular and extra long seat posts included with the bike and the adjustability of the handlebars. What's to love? First off they don't have the crappy components of the cheaper bikes and they don't have the unneccessary price tag of the more expensive bikes. Second and most importantly, they roll and balance so smoothly due to the quality of the hubs, bearings, rims, frame design, and proper sizing that it's easy for the kid to pick up how to make it balance on their own simply by pushing their way along then eventually lifting their feet. The bike is built for all environments so longterm the excellence of the construction and the knobby tires meant that they were able to learn on sidewalks and later end up riding offroad on gravel, dirt single track trails, hills, etc. with no worries. After getting up the skills, the rear wheel hand V-brake gave me the confidence that they could perform a controlled stop before losing balance and wiping out on a steep hill, once properly trained. (After my son built up his ability to go downhill at top speed the only thing that gave me confidence in him not breaking an arm was the rear wheel V-brake which is the absolute best way to make a smooth stop while maintaining balance.) Bottom line: because this bike perfectly imitates the "next level" pedal bike, minus the pedals, both of my kids literally immediately rode off on a pedal bike the very first time they sat on one, b/c they had already mastered every riding skill from balance to steering to leaning to braking due to the training they got simply by riding the Scoot Ridgeback. The one thing that will happen with any kids bike is paint chips from when the bike falls on concrete, and the good thing is these bike come with matching touch up paint for that. WeeBikeShop and Jump Start Bikes were both very reachable, responsive, helpful, courteous and prompt in any dealings we had with them both pre- and post purchase.
