Disgraceful treatment and totally uncaring attitudes, especially from the duty manager of Twitchen House on the evening of 18.8.17 - mine was not the only family in difficulty and when asked if my special needs children would have to sleep in the car boot the staff shrugged and ignored us. I have severe disabilities too and could have been hospitalised by being left in the cold and wet but the staff didn't care one jot, the older woman with the blonde hair on duty and the duty manager were awful in their attitudes.
When I managed to travel for 2 hours and buy a tent as ours was faulty and had broke (caravans were available but we had a therapy dog for my disabled son but the manager didn't care, a dog was just a dog!) it was 1am before I got my young children to bed. The facilities weren't great, not much to do, the pool was warm but very small, food adequate but very overpriced and the term "happy camper" doesn't apply to this place - I barely saw a smiling face. Beware if you are disabled - despite requesting being near facilities we were as far as possible, it's very hilly all over, they don't care about any problems you may have at all and the disabled shower was half broken. Activities were less than made out to be, kids things we had bought tokens in advance for, many we couldn't use the tokens on and had to pay more for again if we wanted them to do those activities, even though it said on a sheet to use tokens for them. The place was a shambles of disorganization and apathy.
The arcade was small and half of the machines simply took your money then didn't work, but instead of a refund like any proper place you had to fill in a form and collect money back the next day - by which time you had either forgotten or were so desperate to escape this hell hole you didn't care any more. The pleasant woodland walk to the beach is actually about a 5 mile steep trek - my health and fit husband was hard pressed by it! The beach is a public one in town, half allows dogs and the other half doesn't.
Much of the resort did allow dogs, but I still would never return here or even to Devon as it's left such a bad taste for my family. It's put my family off camping for life, we used to go regularly years ago but after this never again! Though due to the extremely narrow, curvy lanes leading to the sites I am now a very accomplished driver - I have no idea how anybody copes with a caravan though and our thoughts on getting one of those have also been quashed.
