1 star is too many. Purchased a frisky fox petrol lawnmower with electric start on June 2020. It didn't arrive when advised it would. When assembled the electric start failed to start the engine but I put this down to the engine being cold. The second time I cut the grass the blade hit a root which bent it in half. I was surprised at this given that in ten years previous lawnmowers had never done this (and this mower does not cut lower) However I then tried to source a replacement blade but found I could only procure one from UKHS. I was quoted £29.99 for the blade but was actually billed an additional £5 for postage, something to bear in mind when using mail order. During this time the mower was "charging" in advance of its next use. When the blade was replaced I tried to use the electric start and did not get any response at all. I started the mower manually and used it for the third time. Half way round the lawn the self-propelled mechanism failed! By this time I had concluded that the mower was not fit for purpose and contacted UKHS to ask for a refund. Nobody apologised for the failure but the "customer service" agent advised that they would need to see it and asked me drain it of oil and petrol and send it back to them (they did offer to cover the cost of this). Nobody covered the cost of my time to disassemble the machine and re-package it. They expected to look at at in a few days time. Given the late delivery of the machine in the first place I wasn't expecting my refund quickly so I asked what I would do with my lawn in the meantime. The agent could only say he didn't know. I sent it back but had to call up myself 10 days later for an update. Expecting a refund to be processed I was shocked to learn that the team in the workshop had said they wouldn't be able to sell the machine as a ex-demo so I wouldn't get a refund. Given that the mower had been used I would never expect it be returned in brand new condition but it wasn't far off (I am pleased that I took photographs of it before returning it). More importantly though, why is this relevant? The machine is not fit for purpose. The agent also advised that they had changed a spark plug, the battery and repaired the self-propelled mechanism. This was required on a machine that was used 2/3 times. What will it be like when the guarantee has run out? I have decided to write this post to steer people away from buying items like this by mail order. UKHS are returning the mower but I don't really intend using the mower again and will be pursuing a refund. To use it again I will of course have to re-assemble the machine when it is returned so more hassle and I wouldn't expect it to work for very long before having to go through the same process. When I asked the agent to provide me with replacement oil (I had to drain and dispose of the oil provided with the mower in the first place) he said it wasn't normal practice, that I was being as awkward as possible, and got quite angry - some customer service! I also asked to be referred to someone higher in the company but he said I couldn't because they were on holiday! I am going to take my complaint further but would recommend anyone to avoid UKHS at all costs.
