Bookwriting Founders company is nothing but a scam, promising you the moon and delivering nothing but lies and broken promises. I was initially drawn to this company based on positive reviews I found online, which I’ve now come to realize were linked to Bookwriting Founders’ website and therefore can’t be trusted as legitimate reviews. I wish I had taken more time to investigate further and discover the real truth – this company preys on naïve authors and does nothing but take their money and run. I paid $7100 upfront for services related to editing and publishing my manuscript in Oct. 2022, and was promised that the book would be ready for publication on Dec. 1, 2022. I was promised a “dedicated team of 5 experts” (writer, editor, research, and Q&A). No matter how often I asked, I was never provided with the names of “my” team, nor did I have any way of working directly with them. Every time I called to voice my concerns about extensive delays, incomplete and incorrect files, and inept editing, I was told people were in meetings and would call me back. Needless to say, no one would call back, and over time it became clear it was a massive shell game, designed to keep stringing me along with nothing to show for my substantial payment.
The inept handling of my manuscript verged on unbelievable – the editing was slip-shod and inaccurate, and many pages were not edited at all. There were random and bizarre word changes, like the editor just grabbed a different word from a thesaurus, even though the suggested word didn’t make sense in the context of the sentence. Formatting was an ongoing issue, including page numbers hidden by text and photos incorrectly sized, leaving random blank areas on pages. My instructions were never followed, and mistakes showed up time after time, no matter how often I was assured they had been corrected.
While still early in the editing phase, they heavily pressured marketing upsells. Since the basic work had yet to be completed, I declined and let them know I wanted to see a finished product before considering any additional marketing expenses. After that, the project became a nightmare with no resolution – no finished book, no responses to my phone calls or emails. I was consistently lied to, and eventually the project manager head offered numerous apologies and acknowledged that I had received unsatisfactory treatment, frustrating experiences, and multiple delays. At one point she even suggested that a “rogue employee” had been sabotaging work, and I have now seen that same statement in several other critical reviews. Her promises for addressing my multiple concerns were empty, and a quality finished book never appeared.
It became painfully clear over time that this dishonest and incompetent company had no interest in helping me publish my book, but only in playing an expensive and cruel game of dodge and deflect at the writer’s expense. I have since read many reviews by other authors to now realize this is the company’s modus operandi. When I asked for a refund, which was included in my contract (“Money Back Guarantee based on Dissatisfaction with the Quality of Work or Service”), my request was ignored. I sent a formal demand letter, which was also ignored.
I personally checked out the three addresses listed on their website(s) for Illinois: 4803 N. Milwaukee Ave., Buffalo Grove, IL; 2057 Green Bay Road, Highland Park, IL; and 9300 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, IL, and discovered the company exists only on paper, there is no physical office at all. Because the company has no legitimate physical address, I have no way to legally serve court papers for small claims court. Their “100% money back guarantee” is worthless, and I’m out over $7,000. If you call 312-625-1056, you are going to be scammed. I hope this review helps warn other aspiring authors. Please do your research and don’t fall victim to this corrupt company.
