We ordered four amaryllis, which arrived in October, with instructions that we could store them in a cool place till we were ready to plan them, so as to get them to bloom when we wished. We were aiming for Christmas so we got them out to plant on 10th November. We found that two had already grown long stalks and flower buds, while in storage, inside their plastic bags, so they were badly distorted. We have had to tie them to poles and one is already flowering, two days after planting. We emailed to inform them and ask them to in future give better instructions for storage (e.g. to take them bulbs out of the bags and to check them for growth) but the reply was dismissive. It's a shame. We spent a lot to get good bulbs and we have now got two plants that will be over well before Christmas, and no indication that the company really cares about customers or the plants themselves.
