These worked exactly how I hoped they would. I was able to add studs to some snow boots I use for ski biking. They gave me much better grip on the icy sections when kicking to get my speed up, and steep sections for walking without slipping. The only advice I would give for those looking is to consider the width of the tread pattern on your boots. The auger that is screwed into the sole is much wider than what is exposed, which reduces the likelihood of being pulled out but also makes it harder to install on finer tread patterns where there isn't a wide spot to drill into.
