Hello,
I would like to recommend you a great 90 degree or even 45 degree handle for grinding edges for any eccentric sander from Makita to Mirka from a small company in England called Iluca Tools and write a review about it, since probably most people don't even know that something it also exists.
I specifically ordered this 90 st. the handle in the photos for the strongest, heaviest and therefore somewhat atypical sander Festool Rotex 150, for which in the original Festool shop 90 st. the edge sanding handle does not even produce. Not that I want to buy it just because of the lower price than the original Festool, but because of the fact that you can't even get it anywhere else. We will discuss the specific details of this sander with a handle at the end. So I took a risk and bought it from an English company that I didn't even know about until then.
I will summarize my experience in 3 points. Let's look at the construction first.
Dan, the owner of the small company Iluca Tools in England, makes these grinder handles on his 3D printer and designs them himself. For the fact that it is from a 3D printer, to my surprise it fit very precisely on the grinder, the grip strength is excellent and after tightening the two screws on each side of the grinder, the handle does not even move, it holds the angle perfectly and the material is also very hard. that I don't think it will crack even if it falls to the ground. There are some cosmetic flaws, but that's normal for any 3D printer product. It doesn't affect the functionality, it just looks like 3D printing. Nothing can be done about it.
In terms of functionality, I grind very well with it and the angle on the ground edge is a perfect 90 degrees. The handle slides along the edge and does not make marks even on a finely polished surface, because it has a synthetic fabric attached to the side with velcro, which can be replaced (a spare one was included in the package). Before I started using this handle, I always had a problem maintaining a 90 degree angle on small edges of 1.8 cm - up to 3 cm and it didn't look pretty. Now it's a piece of cake!
As for the price, it is certainly less than it would cost on the original pages from the store, even though original handles are not even made for some grinders. But the price is not that low, because after converting some 80 euros, you have to pay another 20 euros at the post office for customs from England, so to sum it up, for not that much money you get a super high-quality and personalized product that maybe you won't find it anywhere else.
Now I will return to my atypical, heavy and powerful sander Festool Rotex 150, for which I ordered a handle and the problem I had with this particular sander. This grinder is so heavy that it grinds a 90 degree angle only when the handle on it has a bit more than a 90 degree angle. It's strange and I didn't know it, so I was quite surprised from the beginning (also because Dan, the owner, didn't write it anywhere on his website) and as soon as the handle arrived in the mail I wrote him a scared email that "the handle doesn't have exactly 90 degrees and it's slightly off" . It was great that Dan wrote back right away even though it was 10pm and explained that it was supposed to be because of the heavy weight of the sander and that it would grind 90 degrees even though the shaft is not exactly 90 degrees, so I tried it and found that he was right and it was grinding exactly 90 degrees.
Despite that, I still wanted to test how it would grind when the handle was at exactly 90 degrees, so I asked Dan that I would need a new handle and I would convert the old one to exactly 90 degrees, if he would send me a new one. Dan sent me a new handle for free with no problems and now I have two at home for use, one with exactly 90 degrees for horizontal sanding and the other slightly over 90 for vertical sanding. I know it's science, but believe me, it's true. We also discussed it with Dan and he confirmed to me that this particular grinder has no other solution than this. But this is only the case with this particular Festool Rotex 150 sander and no other sander on the market has this in my opinion. Anyway, it's probably a tribute to quality from Festool...
So that's my experience. When you have a grinder, whether Festool or Bosch, Makita, Mirka, Dewalt, Metabo, etc. so don't hesitate to order a handle for grinding precise edges from Iluca Tools. It's worth it!
