We ordered two little Buffys along with a Black Copper Maran, Lavender Dream Easter Egger and a Barred Rock. They all arrived healthy and strong, are now 8 weeks old, and growing like weeds.
We love our buff orpingtons, and are excited to have them in our flock! Their names are Goodie and Nancy Drew. Goodie is the bravest girl in the flock and always the first to run up when we open the coop door. Nancy is a bit shier, but a love bug once you have her in your arms.
The Black Copper Maran is named Penny Pru Pumpkin and has always been the easiest to pick up and the calmest when handled. Now that she's bigger, she is still very social, and seems to be a leader in the group. Her stunning cooper feathers are a delight.
Princess Leia, the Lavendar Dream, really is a dream. She has such beautiful, soft, grey feathers and loves to perch on our shoulders. She is the mama of the flock and is very caring towards the other 4.
Last, but not least, our gorgeous Barred Rock, Helvetica, is a sweet chick and a little bit shy, but once you have her on your lap, she settles in and relaxes immediately. When my daughter sings to her, she falls asleep in her hand! She is hesitant to try new things, but after watching the others eat a new food or explore a new territory, she eventually comes around. Very quarky and cute, she's so fun to observe.
Overall I couldn't be more pleased with the temperment of these birds!
Shipping Note: We were very nervous ordering chicks by mail. My Pet Chicken did their best to assure us along the way when we called to ask questions. Their customer service is excellent. Being in an urban area, we were concerned that the post office would not know how to handle livestock orders. We got an update that the chicks had shipped late Monday morning. Tuesday we got a notification that they had arrived at our local post office. We immediately drove over to pick them up, as per MPC's instructions, however, they had already been loaded onto the truck for delivery to our home! This is against USPS policy, and not the fault of MPC. I think our post office just didn't have any experience with this kind of thing. We waited breathlessly for about 4 hours but eventually the mail truck pulled up and delivered our sweet babies! We heard them chirping and were so relieved when we opened the box to find them all alive and well! I would definitely order from MPC again in the future.
