I’ve had chickens and chicks for many years but this is the first time I’ve ever purchased any online. The buying process was pretty straight forward, and I made sure to select a ship date that I would be available for the upcoming weeks to take care of our new chicks. I purchased a total of 25 chicks. I received an email stating that my chicks were shipped on a Tuesday. The email also stated that I should receive my chicks between Tuesday and Thursday, and if I have not received them by Thursday at 5pm to let them know. Thursday evening came, I made a trip to my local post office to see if they have arrived, and they have not. I was told they would not be there until Friday. Mind you, it is October, they were shipped out of Ohio to Kentucky, the weather is getting down into the 30’s at night. Friday morning I received a call from the post office saying they arrived. I picked up my chicks. Out of 25 chicks, 2 of them had sadly passed, 8 of them were extremely lethargic. I get them home, immediately give them food, water, and heat. I emailed MyPetChicken and told them what had happened. They sent me a care plan for the lethargic chicks. I followed the care plan but sadly it did not help. By Sunday, I had lost a total of 10 chicks. MyPetChicken put the blame on the post office, but these chicks were in a box with nothing to keep them warm but themselves. Some chicks appear to be older than the others (different breeds) but already had feathers and much bigger than some of the others. Out of the 15 chicks that made it, several have pasty butt, which is a condition I’ve never experienced with ANY of the hundreds of chicks I’ve had in the past. They did give me a refund for 9 of the 10 chicks I lost, they didn’t give me a refund for the 10th chick because they sent 26 instead of 25 so they were assuming the free one they give me was one of the 10 which passed away, which is a fair assumption, but considering I lost almost half my flock you would think they’d be a little more considerate. Anyway, rather it be the post offices fault or MyPetChickens fault, I will never buy online again given this experience, and the loss of life and conditions these chicks were put through. I’m honestly surprised this is even allowed if this is their normal practice.
