An admission: lots of coffee tastes the same to me. I read flavour notes on packets and blurb but it all seems to taste very similar once it’s gone through my Aeropress. However (you knew this was coming), not so with Nørlo. It genuinely tastes strong and full bodied but without the astringent lingering taste that seems sine qua non in even the upmarket bags in supermarkets. The grind is workable for my aeropress, the packaging and branding wonderfully ‘of the moment’ for those of us with a Scandi fascination. It does indeed remind me of the fika you find in Nordic cities. Naturally, it is expensive. The bags are smaller than supermarket offerings and more expensive per gram by some margin even before postage is added. As a result it can’t quite become my only coffee, but I keep it for my first cup and my good cup and the mass market stuff can fill the gaps in between. Thank you Nørlo for surprising me with my own dormant taste buds.
