I was given a present around Christmas time by a friend who then travelled abroad, and who is not returning to the UK soon due to Covid-19. It is made by Pure and is a current model Evoke CD-4. I recently unpacked it and although the radio worked , the CD player did not. I tried to contact the company without success, writing to both directors of Pure International Ltd on two occasions, but received no reply. So I decided to pay for the carriage of the cd/radio back to their address, assuming, as the item was basically new and unused, that they would assess and hopefully fix the problem. Next they said that they would only consider looking at the radio if I supplied a receipt, but as it was a present and the giver is abroad for the foreseeable future, this was not possible. I pointed this out and they refused to offer any help simply stating that the radio could not be repaired and wished to return it. I asked for a technical report and they said one did not exist because they had done a cost analysis on offering a repair service and found it to be uneconomical. When challenged on this that maintained that it was cheaper to throw a faulty product away than fix it. I find this to be disgraceful, especially in today's climate where we are encouraged to recycle and reuse. The Pure Evoke C-D4 is- at least in theory- a sophisticated product with expensive components and parts and in my view it is totally irresponsible to just toss such an object onto the scrap heap. I suggested that they probably know what I think they should do with their useless product, also adding that perhaps as a more practical alternative they should use it as a teaching aid for their junior technicians (if they employ any, that is.) SO MY STRONG ADVICE IS TO AVOID PURE PRODUCTS UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN THEY WILL NEVER REQUIRE A REPAIR.
