My now husband (all thanks to WebWed!) and I are from two different countries and have been separated for months because of COVID. We were planning to get married this year and thanks to WebWed we were actually able to make it happen. Even better, I now am able to get a visa and will reunite with my husband very soon!
The service is official and quick and the owners are very lovely and kind.
I am giving 3 stars due to some logistical and technical issues. I want to leave some constructive criticism and tips for those also considering using WebWeb. Overall I am very grateful. Here are the issues I found and ways I think WebWed could improve the virtual marriage experience.
1. The WebWedMobile app and "Event Creator" is pointless, confusing, and misleading. I would love to see WebWed create a simple "select and book your service" type option directly on the website. Where you can pay for what you need and see their scheduling and availability on a calendar. Instead, you have to download the app, create an event, and select your service options to pay. You are then directed to upload documents and information into the app. Turns out, some of the documents it asks for are not necessary and the app didn't even allow me to upload things and was not working properly. It really stressed me out. It also turns out that the date and time you select when creating the event are not guaranteed until they check their schedule and confirm. So my advice, ignore the app. Just use it to pay and then follow the instructions you will get via email. CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER!! A lot of unnecessary stress was cause because their emails were in my spam. It would be nice for WebWed to advise people to add their contact email on the website as a disclaimer to avoid this.
2. Hidden costs. I paid an additional unexpected $130. $70 fee to the court for the license (this is avoidable), $50 for a virtual appointment with the court clerk because there was a problem with the online portal application for the marriage license and it could not verify my identity (they compare your passport or ID photo to a current selfie photo to verify your identity, my passport photo is really old and looks way different than how I currently look), and $10 to make an updated change on the marriage license to correct my husbands international address. You have to input a domestic (US) address on the online application and then have it corrected to the international address after. WebWed paid for this to be corrected the first time, however the correction they made was still not correct and I need to make a second correction. WebWed could list all the potential hidden costs so people are not surprised. Compared to a traditional wedding, this service is cheap, however, for my current situation, I was really stretching my money to make this possible and these hidden costs were not taken lightly.
3. The ceremony. You will use an app for the video ceremony. It turns out the app can not handle a lot of people. I was not advised on how many people to have on the video for the ceremony. Part of why I chose WebWed is because I thought it would be the ideal way to have all of our family join the ceremony. So, I invited about 20 people to join the video call and it was a mess. In fact, I could not see my Husband, or the officiant's video feed the entire ceremony and my dad almost missed everything because he could not get into the app. WedWed records the ceremony on their end and then sends it when it's over. I was counting on this to send to my family that could not attend and to actually see my husbands reactions. Well, I am not in the recorded video from WebWed's end at all. This was very disappointing. So, I would advise WebWed to either find a better video platform OR to tell their clients to only have a couple additional people join. I would say 4-6 video feeds MAX! I will say that even though I couldn't see, the ceremony was still an incredibly touching moment that I will never forget and JC did a great job officiating.
My gratitude to WebWed and to anyone considering, go for it. Take my tips and you can have a great experience. Everything is legal and official.
