Over the years I’ve purchased quite a few items from WYCs. The largest was a Thornton Pickard Ruby half plate camera, all complete with three plate holders. The outfit, ready to use, came with a beautifully handwritten letter from a member of staff who had used it. He explained that my camera had taken part in a television program from the Science Museum.
Of course, not having a television set in my Derbyshire Peak District cottage, I was unable to watch this.
I’ve just purchased a terribly grotty Nikon 105mm f2.5 Nikkor P, circa 1964, to use with an equally shabby black Nikon F. The lens has dented filter rim, black paint rubbed off the focus scallops and a measure of haze throughout. Faults like this can be used creatively (that’s what the late Roger Hicks told me) Anyone seen the price of a Nikon lens with Defocus Control? And all for £49 with a £1 charged for a rear lens cap to make the order qualify for free carriage. Delightful.
