The Worst Company I have ever dealt with
About 2 months ago I was Cold Called by a polite sales guy from Yell .. and he set about trying to sell me various "Yell" products.. despite me repeatedly saying "NO I'm really not interested I ran Yell adds about 5yrs ago for 12 months and received just ONE enquiry during the whole period, so it doesn't really work for me"!! But he wasn't going to give up that easily..
He asked if I would like a website built?.. to which I replied "I already have one thanks so NO", He then asked about its prominence and how they could get me on the front page of Google with one of their tailor made websites!... to which I replied again "NO thanks" and took the opportunity to make him aware that my very own home built website is already on the Front page of Google... and what's more for all my targeted keywords and in all my targeted areas to boot..., I also pointed out that on all the front page Google listings where my Website appears that it in fact features way above "Yell" in the organic listings!!!, so with this in mind why would I pay "Yell" to build me a website!!!, the very fact that I can achieve a higher Google ranking than a big player like "Yell" suggests that I may be in the wrong job!!, The "Yell" sales person had at this point after checking my ranking on Google realised himself that they probably couldn't better my current ranking, and so he moved on to offer other services that may be of interest...
He suggested: Content manager, I replied "NO I already manage this myself"....
He then suggested managing my free listings, I replied "NO these have already been submitted by myself and approved"...
He then offered to run an AdWords campaign, I replied "NO I already run my own and it has a very good CTR and ROI"....
REALLY WHICH PART OF THE WORD "NO" DO THEY NOT UNDERSTAND!!! if this isn't "HARD SELL" what is!!!....
Now the "Yell" salesperson in all fairness is a professional and not one to give up easily and very very persistent, in fact the most persistent I have ever encountered on the telephone!!... this is when he came up with something that sounded like it could work!! and also have a decent ROI...., he asked me would I be interested in featuring in second position on "Yell" for my targeted areas and for a specific search term when typed into Google and the "Yell" link selected, and that it would only cost £50.40 per month!!!, to which after a brief discussions confirming that I would be in second position I replied "Yes", and so we went ahead with the advert...
Now 48hrs later when the add went live I could quite clearly see that I was not in second position? or third or fourth or even tenth for that matter!!!, I called the team immediately to point this out and basically the long and short of the conversation was along the lines of "sorry sir but your in a contract now and there is nothing you or we can do about it"... to which I replied "well just cancel the advert then" to which they replied "sorry sir but you have no rights under the 14 day cooling of period to cancel because you are a business, even though you are only a sole trader you still have no rights to cancel".... I asked for this or similar in writing but they DECLINED the offer!!! "Surprise Surprise"
Since this I have received no end of phone calls from various advisors and sales persons trying to upgrade (at a huge expense) my advert one way or another in attempt to right the wrong!!!... when I point out that I feel I was MISLEAD and SOLD an advert which basically doesn't exist as the "Second Position" they PROMISED, and by their own admission only gets on average TWO!! yes TWO!! searches within "YELL" PER MONTH!!! (I see this with my own eyes during a screen share session with a "Yell" advisor!!!), and the probability is that those "TWO" searches are just competitors checking out the local competition and/or Tele Sales companies looking for their next victim to pester, and not even potential customers.. with which the advisor didn't disagree!!!, infact the advisor responded by suggesting I should get a job with them (them being "YELL")
So not only do I feel I have been mislead, I have also been sold a product I believe is not fit for purpose!!… I have received many apologies for this from various members of the "Yell" team... BUT not ONCE offered a refund!!, Instead I just get emails threatening legal action against me and debt collectors if I don't pay the money for the advert!!!!...
I have submitted this review as I feel it my duty to share my experiences of "Yell" with other businesses, hopefully it will help them avoid all the anguish and frustration I am currently dealing with, by hopefully proceeding with more caution when dealing with "Yell".
If you would like to follow I will be sharing and updating my current situation/position with Yell as I feel necessary across the more usual social media platforms, and also with the Small to Medium sized businesses that I am in contact with through various trade organisation and social media platforms.
I just wish I had taken the time to read the reviews about Yell on "trust pilot" and "reviews.co.uk" then I could of avoided the whole situation.
they're a real eye opener
