Purchased two Zero Waste Club reusable coffee filters because the company claims to be an ethical company committed to supply chain transparency. I asked ZWC to confirm: (a) the grade of stainless steel that was used in the manufacture of the filters; and (b) how the company ensures that its manufacturers use that particular grade of stainless steel. That is important to ensure that the product is food safe, especially because coffee is an acidic food that can leach metals. ZWC did not respond to my enquiries. I have since received the product. It is not as it was asvertised on the ZWC website (that is, it did not bear the insignia of the company on the handle grip or its name on the base). The product had terrible workmanship - the circular base was uneven, so it could not sit securely on the surface of a cup. Furthermore, though the frame is a type of stainless steel, I suspect that the mesh which is used on the interior is not stainless steel because it scratches easily under one's nail. Both the colour of the mesh and its durability seem to be closer to aluminium than food grade 304 stainless steel. Further enquiries have revealed that an identical product is being sold for less than half the price on AliExpress and Temu (and some damaged, as the one I received, for 4c). I suspect that ZWC might be purchasing these products, repackaging them, and onselling them to their customers at a substantial profit. But I can't know that to be true. I will be requesting a refund from ZWC and for them to bear the shipping costs. The products have obvious workmanship defects; it is not as it was advertised; ZWC has not been transparent about its supply chains; and the exact same product is available for a fraction of the price on AliExpress and Temu. I will not be buying from ZWC again.
