Have been a RAC member for over 20 years, have used the service 3 times in total, the last one (3 years ago) was pretty poor, I broke down on the way home from work, called the RAC (via the web site which is the only option now days), was advised someone would be with me within 4 hours ! After 5 hours a mechanic arrived, apparently he was assigned to my job from Leicester, some 80 miles away! He diagnosed faulty coil packs and towed me home. To be honest he was a nice guy, but he didnt have much good to say about the RAC, and that they were stretched and not happy to have to face disgruntled customers. Well my latest renewal has arrived, 30% higher than my previous years' permium, and unfortunatley I will not be renewing. Just checked Green flag, similar cover, 30% cheaper, so guess what?

It took 6 hours to fix a flat battery, despite advising that I had an elderly disabled passenger. Logged call at 7pm got home at 1.50 am. RAC operative was rude, disinterested and real jobsworth. Subcontractor was contacted by RAC after 3 hours, and service from them was excellent. Can’t believe I’ve wasted so much money on membership over the years, will be going elsewhere.

Wouldn't allow my registered support dog in the tow truck and was told to get my own transport despite being told on the phone it would be ok. Was told to keep my support dog locked in my car, cold and in the dark on his own on the back of the lorry. Driver wouldn't even hear that I I needed the dog. Been with RAC 10 years. Complaints department unapologetic and unhelpful. I can see no reason to stay with RAC because my support dog is with me 24/7.

Absolutely unbelievable. I've recently joined after 40 years with the AA. I had a recurring problem and the AA kept telling me different things all of wich were wrong. The guy came last night diagnosed the problem exsplaning exactly what it was and actually fixed it. Gave me good advice . This guy was 100% top marks to you sir and thankyou 40 years wasted with the AA.

Wouldn’t even give them 1 star if that was an option. My mum has been left on the side of road at night by herself for over 8 hours with my young sister at home on her own. Agents getting aggressive on the phone saying ‘if she feels scared because she’s a woman to call the police’ and will terminate the phone call because it’s ’not an emergency’. She spoke to them at 2pm they originally said 6:30-8:30pm so she waited, then changed to 11pm-2am. Sat crying in a cold car, what is the point of paying for a membership

I've broke down several times and on average I spend 30 mins on the app trying to report the break down first of all. Then it takes 1-4 hrs to just get a patrol out. I've found d this is on average 4 hrs wait Tim so far. Staff issues clearly. Expensive too. And staff over the phone nearly everyone I spoke to on several occasions clearly don't like their jobs as they have one slow tone....

Terrible service rang at 9.20 am then told it be 6.50 pm before I was seen to.thats nearly 10 hours. It's not acceptable I will be cancelling my membership

I call the rac for recovery and the staff on the phone was Very rude and unprofessional The guy who came out was more professional and helped me out the best way he could. And I will give him 100% credit for all the help he gave me and made sure I got back home in my car wish I should of really drove with the way it was

Broke down at 18.10 and was told I would have to wait until 22.10! Yes four hours and I wasn’t in the middle of nowhere. Found out that we had AA cover and they turned up within the hour.

I've been with RAC for year's they used to be good. But in the last few year's not to good. So going to use a different breakdown service as soon as my membership runs out.

If you have an RAC membership—get another one. If you don’t have an RAC membership, don’t bother getting one. I once tried to book a breakdown service due to a yellow warning light and was told it wasn’t urgent, so they wouldn’t send an engineer. When I later attempted to book assistance for an actual breakdown, I waited 5–6 hours only to be told to wait until the next day—without any guarantee they’d come. The customer service was extremely rude, and I was repeatedly transferred from one agent to another just to avoid answering my questions. Absolutely appalling service. I ended up paying another well-known provider to assist me instead. Meanwhile , I was advised, “Do not drive the car if you think it could cause more damage.” Hello? I’m not a mechanic! If I knew what was wrong with the car, I wouldn’t need to request breakdown assistance in the first place! I would never recommend RAC. There are plenty of other providers—choose wisely. P.S. RAC’s customer service rating is only 1.4.

Unbelievably bad customer service. I cannot enter a new account as site takes me round and round in circles. People on phone say we have to do our enquiries on line but we can’t get our account to recognise us. Now we are trying to cancel the insurance policy (only held for two days) but no response to the phone. Avoid at all costs.

Broke down in a very dark wooded area with my daughter, was told so many different times of arrivals, reported about 6.30pm still no one at 10.30, also I was told could be up to 1.20 am, also that I had been on a priory because of where I was and had a child. Ridiculous waiting times, Gave up and cancelled, had to find my own recovery....! Awful service!

Complete waste of time! Called them at 6 PM, and they initially promised to arrive between 8:50 and 9:50 PM. Then, I received another message saying they wouldn’t be there until after 1:10 AM—far too late, so I had to cancel. Giving them another chance, I booked for 2 PM the next day, assuming their usual six-hour delay. They assured me they’d arrive by 2:20 PM, so I left work and rushed to my broken-down car. Then came a call—now it was 3:15 PM. Why am I still waiting at 3:30? Now time updated to say they’ll arrive at 4:50! An absolute waste of time. Avoid at all costs!
