“I feel deceived by Arnold Clark Nottingham.
I bought a car from this dealership in February. The manager said over the phone that it was in ‘as new’ condition and I organised a viewing.
Sitting in the car, all seemed to be OK other than it smelled of cigarette smoke. Upon breathing in the air I voiced doubts about buying the car, because I am an asthmatic, and cigarette smoke can trigger me.
I bought the car because the salesman promised me that through valeting, the smoke residue could be 100% removed. He affirmed this.
However this was certainly not the case and three months on I’m being forced to sell the car at a 23% loss.
The valet took one month to organise, and another month to be reimbursed for. It wasn’t effective anyway. Just one week after the full interior cleaning the issue had returned and become even worse than before. A twenty-minute drive would grant me a sore throat for the entire day. My salesman at Arnold Clark Nottingham was fully aware of this, yet did not organise the second valet for another 85 days despite repeated contact.
Recently a family friend who has worked with cars for 30 years said to me that it is “pretty much impossible” to remove this type of odour from cars. This seems accurate given that since the second valet the issue has returned.
I feel used, cheated and uncared-for. I get the impression that Arnold Clark’s staff only care about their number of sales. They never once apologised nor showed any concern about my wellbeing. They were slow in responding when I asked for help; conversely they were swiftly on the case when I mentioned exchanging the car for something more suitable - conceivably because this would count as another sale for the month’s tally.
I didn’t expect too much from Arnold Clark Nottingham but I trusted their salesman and the integrity of the company. After nearly four months of having to strictly limit my driving for fear of an asthmatic episode, along with all the hassle of trying to communicate and organise a solution with them, they refuse to give me a reasonable offer for the car, and so I turn to writing the very first negative review I’ve ever written, in the hope others might gain some insight into this dealership.”
