“This review is for the second Biostrap I've purchased. The first was stolen and the friendly staff at Biostrap helped me replace it.
In both cases, I opted for the less expensive version. As a cyclist, I didn't really see the benefit of the shoe pod, since I calculate my physical exertion via a power meter and heart rate monitor. So, the purpose of the Biostrap was to quantify my sleep quality and recover, primarily with resting heart rate and to some degree heart rate variability. The recover score and sleep score are great summaries of this data.
The charging pad that comes with the first Biostrap was plastic and cheap-looking, while the second was slick (aluminum-like and glass). Interestingly though, it didn't work. So, I reverted to using the cheap version, which is very finicky in terms of position and activity the recharging function. On several occasions I came back to a dead battery... make sure the light turns blue before you walk away. Summary, the charging needs to be fixed.
The first Biostrap never had a problem syncing to the app on my phone... very reliable. The second Biostrap has been a nightmare and constantly loses connection to the phone and is a struggle to reconnect. I have to say... If I had this same experience with the first Biostrap, I would not have bothered replacing it. I would have opted for the Whoop despite the subscription model.
In short, the customer service was very helpful... top marks. I like that there isn't a subscription model and the sleep analysis works well as long as I can keep it synced with the app and get the recharging to work. Then again, maybe I just got a lemon.”
“The round charger got very hot and so did the Biostrap. It was quickly replaced. The replacement round charger also got hot. Then I received the square charger. It works well. It runs mildly warm. The charge time is much quicker.”
“I bought the Biostrap 3 months ago to monitor recovery after an infection caused heart and lung issues. I use it nightly and the data stops me over exerting myself. The trend data gives me insight into the whole recovery process. I also bought EliteHRV but only used it for a month - the Biostrap gives me more comprehensive results.
I design and program products for a living. I'm impressed by the Biostrap. The user interface is brilliantly designed, simple to navigate yet using techniques to creatively display a wealth of information. Well done!
While some complain of long sync times, my Biostrap and phone are set to sync every 10min, so at night I see results instantly in the morning. I've only seen long sync times (4min) when the phone and strap are out of range for 12 hours.
If you're using it for training recovery, the sleep data is very comprehensive - highly recommended. For physical training I'd use another device with a visual display and different sensor. “It takes too long to sync information, drains phone battery significantly. The straps were very uncomfortable and poorly designed. you had to charge them too frequently, they weren't waterproof, and the app was not user friendly. It was basicly a Glorified Fitbit that wasn't as functional”
“Loving all the different view and metrics! Been using for over a month and it's Working perfectly. Occasionally need to give it a couple minutes to sync.”
“Need more focus on user experience - learning what the different pieces are and what they will capture, do they need to be worn in conjunction with anything else? Now that I have this data, what do I do with it? Have blog in more conspicuous place on website.
Maybe a "how to" guide/video on the home page. May also be an unintended selling tool (I watch it and it convinces me I should have the data it provides to be a better employee, athlete, human being!)”
“I love the metrics but the accelerometer on the band only worked for 2 days. Support has tried to help but the latest solution of letting the band sit for 3 days seems a bit hokey. I hope this gets fixed as the system seemed great when it worked.”
“*Haven`t received product yet..still in shipping, and going on 3 weeks*
I purchased this product on 3/27 and it has yet to leave the state it was shipped from. It has been to multiple cities within the state, and when I look up the order on biostrap it says the shipment could not be delivered. Normally it bothers me when people put shipment details in the product review so apologies for that. I'll gladly change if I ever receive the product and get to use it. I've ordered other products (from a different website) that shipped from the same state during this time and have already received them. Again, not a product review.. And I get that biostrap isn't the carrier delivering the shipment. Just want to use the product I've already paid for.”
“Provides excellent data. Exactly what I need. Only downsides are battery life between charges and occasional glitches with it seemingly locking up while syncing.
New strap is significantly better than original. Other strap types/designs would be welcome.”
“I love your product for the most part. The charger is on a very short cord that needs to be plugged in. When making more of these in the future, please make the cords longer like Apple does. I usually have to find an item to set the charger on because the cord is so short.”
“The product provides good in-depth information but has multiple issues.
Charge doesn’t last long at all, must recharge very oftenly.
Not water resistant.
Sync time is painfully slow.
Data processed in the cloud, no local option.”
“I bought the total health stack which included the foot pod but no HRM.
The good:
Accurate sleep tracking
Connects easily to 3rd party HRM
App is easy to use and gives good data/feedback
Needs improvement:
Battery life - about 2 days maybe less if you use activity tracking a lot.
Unless you are using all 3 pieces of equipment (biostrap, footpod, HRM) activity tracking is very incomplete and not very accurate relative to smartwatches.
The airplane mode feature is nice but it can be a pain trying to get the strap and footpod out of airplane mode.”
“sleep data very helpful. wrist strap is inconvenient. charging every day is very inconvenient. the data aside from sleep is non intuitive on the app. the website and app instructions could be a lot clearer.”
“Strap keeps good data for sleep. I've found that tracking activity using it for lengthy runs - over 2 hours - is useless as the app freezes and I basically have to uninstall it and reinstall. Honestly for the limited use it has for my fitness tracking without the Ap freezing it's not worth the over 300 that I paid for the fitness package and will probably be returning it. You would think that using the shoe pod during a run would track stride and cadence - it does neither that I can see. Just disappointed overall - there are fitness watches that do everything this strap, hr armband, and POD do for the same price or lower”
