My son is having a wonderful experience at Blyth Academy! Summer of 2020: he registered for 2 online courses. He was extremely committed and successful in the online learning experience and completed both courses with honours in less than 3 months. This provided him with a strong foundation to navigate through his hybrid return to school with his regular school board. Blyth is meticulously organized in its online model of learning with assistance available every step of the way. We would recommend Blyth to anyone who is looking to obtain additional credits or complete their entire grades online.

Our son needed to take calculus in his post-grad year and had much success at Blyth. He was unsure about the online format, especially in math, but he managed and actually found it worked out well as his teacher was very supportive and available. He is now at Western in medical science and his first year of university level calculus is going very well! Thank you.

I appreciated the layout of the course in advance. It made it easier to plan how to get the course done.

My daughter loved the English course she completed on line with Blyth Academy. It was easy for her to follow and when she needed technical support, they responded quickly with assistance. Her teacher was very responsive and provided excellent and helpful feedback on assignments and essays. She was engaged through the whole process and she learned a lot.

My twins boys in Grade 12 registered for one of the programs at Blythe Academy online. The teachers are very supportive and my boys are very satisfied. I would definitely recommend.

My son took the grade 10 Introduction to Business course this summer and it was such a positive experience. He loved the course and learned a lot about business. The teacher was accessible and gave feedback on assignments, quizzes and tests in a timely manner. My son has just enrolled in Blyth online to take Grade 10 Academic French this semester.

Blyth Academy Online has more than exceeded our expectations in enabling my son to maintain his Ontario education while living abroad. I’m particularly impressed with the contact the students have with teachers via video-call check-ins that we haven’t experienced with other schools. Thanks for your care, BAO.

Blyth Academy online provides a great option for kids to work at their own pace. Content is good and dashboard is intuitive.

This is a very helpful education option both my kids have enjoyed with 5 courses so far. The principal is helpful and a good problem solver. Our family likes that we can take the courses as we need them e.g. doing them as "reach ahead" in grade 8 for grade 9 and doing a BOA as an overload to our kids usual Catholic School's 8 credits/year. We also like the many courses that are offered. If there is a gap in learning such as in the summer or during COVID it was great that our children could use BAO as "summer school." Non-synchronous self-directed learning is difficult. Giving the kids the 365 days but no real "to do lists" with timed learning expectations just makes both of our kids (and the two other families we referred) procrastinate. Our daughter (due to COVID) has to do 2 semester of online university already and there it is much more clear what the kids have to do when. The teachers post a "to-do Check list" and the lectures are given by the educator who makes the test questions. But even online it can be done as a real teacher giving the lesson and taping it. The Grade 10 math class is really difficult to learn from the Khan Academy videos. I tried to express my concerns with the Department head of the Math Department that the kids have not learned what they are asked in the marked tests but have not been able to make the point that I might have to try to switch from BAO to Blyth Night School or Blyth Orbit to have a teacher TEACH the material. Our family finds a short video (often just a not very related Kahn Academy clip) not instructional enough for an academic level course. Our son admitted he felt unprepared to perform at his usual level (honour roll student) in the midterm and politely asked for more study material. He was told to "do the lesson/quizzes' AGAIN without further educational resources, exam reviews or practice questions provided. The Department head had said our son could try himself to find some questions (in that big Nelson book). But nobody seems to see the problem here. The CURRICULUM is not sufficiently instructed for what is aske din the tests (likely not the same teacher teaching who made the questions?). Disappointingly, a 70% was given for that Midterm. We would have clearly preferred he would have given more educational resources before the test (he has the email to show he asked for more preparation opportunities). The more we ask for help and admit the course is a struggle the worse the "judged" marks get. It is a struggle. It is so different with Western University online. The lecturer just explains the lesson (e.g. Krebs Cycle which is also not easy) in his own words in a 30-minute video where he/she just talks to powerpoint slights. Those slides are available and are good preparations for the tests. The test then asks what was taught. Some BAO courses do not teach the difficult things in detail but ask the difficult things in detail. Our son had not issues with the Geography course where it is possible to lookup gaps but in math it has to be taught comprehensively. It would be nice if children have the interest to do extra work to give them more educational materials and study materials, especially exam reviews. Even just one IN PERSON lesson taped on video that reviews what is going to be on the midterm would help. The new BrightSpace expects the kids to video their answers and to explain math with words - but the course is not taught by a teacher using her/his own words to explain the math. Even if this is not a synchronous course - there should be video-taped lessons uses (not Kahn academy). The math behind the grading is also a problem. If and important test (like the midterm) has only 3 questions (and one question the students makes a mistake, e.g. being nervous being on camera - like our chid did) then you can already not do better than 75% any more. Again, the university (UWO) uses 40 questions in a Midterm. Mathematically, you should not create a %grade that goes into the final average out of 3 questions. If this low number is allowed then a test with 2 questions would result in 50% grade for just struggling with one question. This practice of NOT ENOUGH questions per test is artificially lowering the achievement in % potential of the students. Example: Our child (despite his struggles with this course) was at 90% before the Midterm - out of nervousness about the unfamiliar "in person" video format for the Midterm overlooked that he was not to calculate one side but the other side of a question that at a triangle. So ONE mistake but because he only had 3 questions total got a Midterm in the 70s that pushed his overall average under 90 - for one question wrong. It is helpful when deciding to buy a course to be able to preview the marked items but there should be also the information about how many questions will be on each marked multiples choice test - low numbers should not be allowed because one mistake affects the %grade too much. This was a problem in Grade 12 Biology as well. The student has to be able to show and bring into his average his knowledge in questions he is able to answer correctly as well.

Notre fils Étienne a fréquenté Blyth Academy via CIHA (Rockland,Ontario).

Blyth Academy Online is a well-organized online school that provides curriculum-based learning with multiple strategies for success in high school. Support from the school is excellent and communication with teachers has been great also (lots of constructive feedback). This is our second year with BAO and we continue to be glad we made this choice for our child.

My son has taken several high-school credits through Blyth Academy Online. The courses were well-designed and clearly presented, with some quite creative assignments, and well-spaced assessments. The Grade 11 economics course was rigorous and challenging with assignments that were a good preparation for researching and writing papers at the post-secondary level. Any technical issues were addressed promptly and the instructors were very quick to answer questions and respond to submitted work. Blyth's online format and execution is far better than an alternative online school which we had previously tried. My son is "returning" to Blyth Online for a final course this academic year and is very grateful it is allowing him to pursue a subject his "day" school does not offer.

Blyth online learning allows students flexibility to finish courses while managing other commitments. Students can work at their own pace. Teachers are available to answer questions and help with course content. Course content, assignments, tests and exams were challenging, sometimes even harder than in class expectations.

Our daughter has taken Blyth courses ever since her grade 9. At first that was nessessary in order to have flexibility with her athletic goals, later it was clear, Blyth is well prepared educational institution that can offer not only flexibility but also in depth quality education. Teachers feedbacks were quick and knowledgeable. Tech support was great, quick and patient. Admin is quick to respond to any questions and concerns. We were very happy with the choice to have Blyth course during Covid school locked down, because unlike regular school, Blyth had planned steady work load, giving a student reassurance and confidence that educational institution knows what and how they do. There were no disturbances in learning, no teachers complaints about not knowing how to upload the lectures and such. Exam went smoothly, technically improved compared to prior years. Thank you Blyth.

Blyth Online has given my son the freedom to work at home or anywhere he is with the confidence that he is getting the best education, great support from his teachers and the student community he interacts with online. The decision to join Blyth Online was simply the best decision we have made.

We need to deal with final exam in a more efficient manner. It takes a long time to book an appointment and our first experience with it is not great. Took an hour to setup the exam. Also, the way the student is treated by the other party is on the border of being a suspect in every movement. Maybe there is a huge cultural difference between us and the provider of the exam monitoring.

Overall, as a family we are thrilled that Saige is attending Blyth Academy Online. It gives us all more freedom. She appears to be learning more because she's able to focus on the learning material and not the social aspects of the classroom. My one concern would be that in more than one class, she hasn't been able to connect with her professors in a timely manner and on occasion, they aren't being quite as polite or helpful as we'd hope for, in their responses. Granted, we are also still training Saige how to better communicate in writing, staying polite & professional...she's still learning.
