The course was alright. My biggest issue with the course is it never told you wich questions you got wrong on the quizzes and on the test. A review of everything you did would be beneficial to anyone. Knowing wich questions you got wrong would give you the opportunity to get the right answer in your head.

Well presented and explained, visually/orally, and transcribed through written/pictorial images and closeups of key components of learning. Great overall summaries. Knowledge gained encompasses general rules as well as rules specific to certain bodies of water; different water crafts, on board safety and flotation devices, emergencies and necessary equipment and gear, rules of navigation.

The animated videos were very helpful in demonstrating concepts such as right of way, putting on a life jacket while in the water, and cold water survival.

The course was very good with repetition and review of key concepts that allow absorption. I would like to see a review of incorrect questions after each module test in order to reinforce areas of weakness (wrong answers). I recommend printing key sections such as sound signals, navigation lights, etc. Printable charts would be helpful for the boating flags and signs sections as well. Everyone should buy the handbook as an ongoing reference. One should make notes as they go through the sections as reference will be required to write the section tests and learn the information so that boaters remember important things while on the water.

To much reading/ information. Not all of us need our hand held to understand boating/ safe operation. Some simple reading + the online test would be way better. Not a drivers ed style learning program that eats up 6 hours of your day. Let people just take a test, especially if they are already competent. Informative, but way to much content.

Too many stupid questions about which agency writes rules or charts or enforcement. Why do we need to know that and why would we care. Questions need to be about operating boats.

Was easy to follow and complete. Some of the videos could have been spliced together though to make the process a bit faster but overall good experience.

Very in depth, learnt a lot about different buoys etc, probably won't use a lot of it as I'm using this in interior lakes, but 1 never knows

Far too basic in some ways (Do I need a course to tell me to wave my arms in the air if I have a boat collision), and far too comprehensive in other ways (nautical navigation terms are not necessary for someone only needing the course for lake boating). The problem with having so much information is that the really important things for lake safety might get missed or forgotten. So important to leave the blower running for inboard engines for example and that needs to be almost automatic vs one of 5000 facts.

The test was long but I managed to get through it and it was not as hard as I thought.

The information was helpful and I understand the need for the course, however, the depth and amount of information I found to be a lot for an occasional, leisure small lake boater. I think there should be levels of boater and PWC lessons and licenses for the area and type of boating/PWC'ing one might be doing. I'm not sure if BOATsmart is able to make these changes or if it's the policy makers, but I think varying degrees and levels of licenses would be more helpful and user friendly, again depending on needs.
