About BWB TECHNOLOGIES UK Ltd:

Pushing the boundaries of flame photometry

What can be achieved with a flame photometer has been redefined by BWB Technologies.

With unrivalled accuracy, low cost and ease of use the BWB flame photometer is not only the best flame photometer available but is the first real alternative to AAS (atomic absorption spectrometry) and ICP (induced coupling plasma) for measuring Lithium Li, Sodium Na, Potassium K, Calcium Ca & Barium Ba .BWB Technologies are an American owned, UK company focused on the design, manufacture and sales of award winning flame photometers.

Drawing on an Anglo-American team of leading industry specialists we strive to create high quality, cost effective products that redefine what is achievable with a low temperature flame.

From our manufacturing plant in Newbury, England, BWB Technologies have introduced a series of flame photometer products, and accessories, which exceed existing expectations in terms of specification, usability, accuracy, reporting, build quality and value for money.

Got a Question?

Hi We use the BWB Frame for ground water samples but we have observed that presence of Sodium ions in the water samples low the measured Calcium value in the same sample. this is even with successful calibration. Also even when a standard for example of 10ppm Ca passes, spiking it with Na ions the standard lowers from 10ppm and keeps reducing with increased Na concentration. Our challenge is to quantify this interference as ground water samples always have varying sodium concentration. How can this change in Ca concentration given varying Ca & Na concentration in water samples can be managed?

Hello, I've extracted this segment from the manual. If you need further advice please drop us an email: hozan@bwbtech.com or technicalsupport@bwbtech.com The following is based on FW from 2.86, your serial number would help us identify what it is you have and how we can assist further. Spectral Cross-Sensitivity Issues with the BWB-XP Due to the proximity of the spectral lines used to detect some ions there are some issues with spectral cross-sensitivity when samples contain mixtures of ions. There are also many potential chemical interferences and these must be counteracted in addition to taking the precautions outlined here. Determining Ca when Na is present Since the Na signal is very strong in comparison with Ca the effects of cross-sensitivity on Na is very small and can generally be ignored. However, the influence of Na on Ca can be substantial. For determination of Ca in the presence of Na a correction is carried out by the BWB-XP firmware to take account of the overlapping spectra. During Ca measurement a value is deducted from the Ca signal dependent on the Na signal. The scale of this adjustment is determined and stored in an internal parameter during a correction procedure. Method 1. Perform single or multi-point / multi-ion calibrations with a mixture of Na and Ca in the ranges of interest. 2. Perform a correction for Ca due to Na. Aspirate a solution containing only Na at a concentration approx. in the middle of the range of concentrations that are expected in the samples. The correction of Ca for Na is located at: Calibrations>Correct>Correct Ca for Na (service mode must be off).
