“I visited Cambridge Caravans and inspected a motorhome, a Cristal 575. I agreed to purchase, and entered into a contract with Stuart Mason. I left a deposit of £500.00 for which I have a receipt. This was paid for at Mr Mason’s insistence by cash card (I now understand that a deal of this sort should be done with a credit card for protection). We agreed a time scale of two to three weeks to get an MOT and for valeting. After a couple of weeks, I rang for an update and was given several excuses why the vehicle was not ready. However, it was getting a pre-MOT that afternoon and Mr Mason would ring me back later for a further update. After a couple of days, I rang up to see how it was going and was given several excuses why the vehicle was still not ready. After some discussion I asked if I could get an independent vehicle inspector to visit and Mr Mason put the phone down on me. During a later telephone conversation Mr Mason claimed the contract was frustrated and was going to cancel it and admitted that he was going to sell the vehicle to someone else. Legally his excuses were not sufficient to claim a frustrated contract. Mr Mason returned my deposit to my bank account against my will and eventually agreed to cover the losses I would incur when cancelling my insurance, but since then he has refused contact so I have written that off. It has been said that "Mr Mason cannot be trusted and judging by the way he treated me is unfit to run a business" I should have listened to my partner who said she did not trust him – when I asked why, she said it was the feeling she got when he was selling the vehicle. The vehicle has since passed the MOT without any advisories.
I have modified my review because Mr Mason has threatened me with legal action.”
