I was very disappointed once I purchased the CARFAX subscription that I could only get info on 5 VIN numbers during the 3 months and unlimited CARFAX's on license plates. Most of the searches I wanted to do were with a VIN number because I could not find out the license plates of previous owners. I believe that CARFAX would be more valuable with this feature. I think that CARFAX is great other than this issue.

Carfax report gives the information that has been reported by shops, especially in Mass where mandatory reporting for all shops is required. However, since, like myself, many times a owner will service his own vehicle, etc. it wont be on the records. So as far as the odometer, insurance reported accidents, etc. Carfax is a reliable source of information to help in deciding on purchasing a car. The next evolution of Carfax might be to include car specific maintenance or known issues as part of the report. For example, the 2006 jetat tdi 1.9l DSG auto 186K that I purchased, did not have a flywheel rattle that would indicate need to replacement. After I purchased the car, the same day, I found a loud rattle, metal banging sound which indicates a urgency to replace the flywheel. While Carfax cannot predict flywheel replacement, my research has found that at the mileage I bought the mileage would warrant a flywheel inspection simply because of mileage. Even though I asked the seller about the flywheel, he gave me inaccurate information such as flywheels are noisy (this might apply to Single Mass Flywheel, manuals which do not dampen the engines vibrations as much as the Dual Mass Flywheel which the DSG has), but do not worry about it if it happens to you. These little details in the negotiations would go a long way to helping the purchasing with certain years, makes and models to alert them to do research for this possibility and ask for a better selling price. I would have asked for a lower price, knowing that I would have to replace the flywheel soon verse "its no big deal, all flywheels are noisey" So the Jetta I purchased two months ago is in shop for the flywheel to be replaced. Fortunately, because the DSG auto uses a wet clutch, the clutch should outlive the flywheel. Stuff like that would really make Carfax standout as the go to place for records and search. The only places to find out known problems and solutions to repairs is to search specific car make/model forums. Even a website like Edmunds which gives an expert review, user reviews an a used car estimate of value. Having this information published would help buyers since sellers in order to sell their cars with know problems would need to adjust their price. Just because a car does not have a problem, specific parts only last so long. Even asking when the last timing belt change on certain cars, for me, is valid since it is usually $1,000 and that is a consideration in the price of post-purchase investment (tires, oil, filter, water pump, etc.) These are my reflections. Also, Mass does have a lemon law which requires the car to be able to pass inspection at time of purchase which this car would not because the tires were borderline, the windshield recently cracked, DTC light airbag sensor -although easy to replace- any DTC for car safety devices need be replace before inspection. The process as I found out later is: purchase, register car, inspect car - fail inspection buyer is entitled to full refund - provide links to different states Lemon law webpages. Things like this would add so much to helping the buyer. Carfax began as a Title, odometer and accident/salvage checker. So to progress to expanding your car centric information ecosystem to include more and certain relevant information would be great. Even having a sorter where by, some is looking for a certain car say for example in my case a tall person car. Jetta, new style 2006 not 2005-previous would be great; then if I am primary purpose is driving myself done, if I want to travel with adults in the backseat as a tall person, the driver backseat is useless. Stuff like that is great. 2005 Honda Odyssey I fit, most other mini vans of certain years, makes and models I do not fit. Leg fitment by inseam and even clearance under steering wheel. Or those tall person's who have tall torso need more headroom, ets. Serious help. Well, those are my thoughts.

$55 should buy more than 2 months service. I think I only received 2 or 3 reports for that money. I'm still looking for a vehicle, but I'm not spending another $55 for a couple more reports. The reports were helpful though.

The facility is very good. I am 80% satisfied as the vin no search is just for five even in unlimited plan. That was not clear in the ad. But number plate search is also good.

For older vehicles i think Car Fax could use some work but its a tough job to try and dig up history on a vehicle that's older than 10 years. In one instance i found some incorrect information but on the whole i felt much better knowing all the information that i had walking into the used car transaction. Car Fax ultimately helped me negotiate down my final price and gave me confidence knowing that i had a detailed history on the car i was buying.

I purchased a carfax report for a car I was trying to sell. Unfortunately, the carfax report was missing something which showed up on the autocheck report which caused some confusion.

I'M WRITING THIS IN HOPES THAT SOMEONE DOESN'T GET CAUGHT IN THE MANY HOLES THAT BEFALL AN HONEST BUYER WHEN YOU ARE DEALING WITH PERSONAL PURCHASE. I CONTRACTED A DEAL FOR A 1989 EDDIE BAUER BRONCO THAT HAD BEEN ADVERTISED AS A 1997. I AM NEW TO CALIFORNIA AND DID NOT RESEARCH THE DMV LAWS PERTAINING TO BUYING A VEHICLE, I WAS USED TO THE EASTERN WAY. I PAID THE MONEY ASKED, AND RECEIVED A BUNCH OF PAPERWORK (TITLE, SMOG, ETC.,) THAT YOU COULD USE FOR THE TOILET. I GOT THE HISTORY OF THE VEHICLE THRU CARFAX, AND WITH IT PLUS MY PERSONAL DOCUMENTS, WILL HAVE NO TROUBLE IN SMALL CLAIMS COURT. DOCUMENTATION IS VITAL TO PROOF. RUN THE VIN TRU CARFAX B4 U BUY.

I like carfax better than autocheck but Carfax price is outrageous. Very expensive for either 1 or 5 carfax report, however Autocheck offer unlimited for less price,\.

I purchased a car that I had an initial problem with, but it turns out it was a loose wire to the computer. The car was only damage in the front right fender, so I love the 2013 Chevrolet sonic and have put many miles on it since august 2014. The airbag was never deployed and everything works great.

I bought a used Jeep Liberty Renegade from Clearwater CDJ in Clearwater FL in October 2014. The Carfax stated there was no body damage and based on the overall condition of the Jeep and it's low miles, we bought it. However, the next day, after a more closer inspection, I notice sheet metal damage on the tailgate behind the spare tire! I contacted the dealer the next day and they declined to do anything about it. I don't know if the original owner did the damage or the dealer did. It was my fault that I didn't inspect the Jeep more thoroughly before purchasing the Jeep. I spent $1100.00 getting the tailgate replaced and painted. Overall it's a great Jeep, but the dealer has been totally ignoring my request for any or all compensation.

Spent over 30 grand on a Denali, with no negative feedback on the carfax. Turns out it was totaled, put back together, painted, and put back on the car lot for sale. Any advice?!

I HAVE TRYED CARFAX BEFORE AND THE TIME I DID WAS ON A 2008 VOLVO XC90 THE DEALER PULLED MY REPORT AND SHOWED THAT IT WAS CLEAN, BUT A YEAR LATER ANOTHER DEALER PULLE THE REPORT SO I CAN TRADE IT IN, AND KABOOOOM IT SHOWED 1 REPORT RIGHT AROUND THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VOLVO SO IT WASNT IN THE SYSTEM RIGHT YET BUT I STILL DIDNT KNOW ABOUT THE ACCIDENT UNTIL I WANTED TO TRADE IN MY VEHICLE. SO IT PROBABLY A GOOD IDEA PEOPLE SHOULD PULL THERE CARFAX A FEW TIMES A YEAR AFTER PURCHASING A USED VEHICLE, ALSO THE VOLVO I PURCHASED WAS SUPPOSE TO BE CERTIFIED??? SO BUYERS PLEASE BEWARE OF WELL KNOWN AUTO DEALERS ON YOUR PURCHASE.
