Going to be without a refrigerator for over a month and it’s the second time it has broken in 6 months. Whirlpool is terribly unreliable and should not be partnering with such and equally terrible repair partner. Stay away.”

The experience I have hade today echoes all the previous customers who have basically been banging their heads against a brick wall trying to obtain the so called excellent service promised in the paperwork.
I will be going into Currys store tomorrow to speak to the manager to ask if they still recommend the cover provided by Domestic and General. If so, to me it appears that they may be ignorant to the fact that they are promoting what seems to be nothing but a " legal" scam.
I, like many others, have now to wait another week before I might get my washing machine repaired. After reading all the bad reviews I seriously believe there is more chance of hell freezing over.
Also, like many others, I have parted with a substantial amount of what I thought was insurance money over the years.
I do not intend to let this matter drop and will return to this review section in due course.”

Called - wait - details taken - transferred to engineer (whirlpool) - wait 23 mins again - to be told we don't do your drier make - try ringing domestic and general (I said I did, thats who transferred me to you!). So, back to Domestic and general by phone (wait) - Oh you should have rang Hotpoint Candy - I said YOUR adviser put me through to the engineer - Sorry, D&G say, Ill put you through now to H/C... - wait 20 mins - line then goes dead while waiting. One hour on lines and ZERO result . You will be better off saving your money in a jar, and going direct to a repairer!”

“'Relax, we've got you covered' is their slogan. What a joke! Four weeks we've been waiting for a repair to our washing machine for what we were told by the engineer is a simple part replacement. D&G customer service is, on the whole (with very few exceptions) diabolical and many of their staff are rude. They work with a company called Pacifica who are supposed to organise the engineer/repair side of things. Both companies blame the other for their poor (non-existent) service and neither communicate with one another. We've had our repair canceled four times, each time with less than 24-hours notice and a new date given - usually a week later. We still have no guarantee that the repair will ever take place. If we'd known this would be the case, we would never have paid for insurance as the monthly payments just aren't worth it. Yes, not having insurance may mean you pay more in the long run for arranging repairs yourself or replacing the machine sooner than you'd prefer to, but you wouldn't have to put up with this pathetic (non)service and the endless phone calls and stress is causes. How are companies like this not regulated and either demanded improvements or shut down. 7% of reviewers recommend them. That says it all. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!”

when it happend 1st I was passed pillar to post and knowone would take ownership. for e.g if my tv or home appliace broke or something went wrong I was told I would not have been covered. Been paying monthly for 2 Appliances, Dishwasher broken Monday, five days later still have no engineer booked to come and fix my appliance, over 20 phone calls to domestic and General this Week. I worked out I’ve been on the phone over five hours this week as well as trying to work daily, every engineer company that they tell me to call & quote a reference number the engineering companies know nothing about my reference number. They’ve told me to call four different companies every time on the phone for up to 1 hour, I will be cancelling my policy.”
“They 'can't find' our account on their system in either the UK, where the policy was originally opened, or in Germany where it was moved to after Brexit. Therefore there's nothing they can do. They've still been able to take a tenner a month on Direct Debit for the last seven years though. Absolute scam of a company. Unfortunately you only find out about these things when something goes wrong so buyer beware.”

“DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! When i contacted domestic and general about my washing machine leaving marks on my washing I was told that it could be corrected by replacing three parts, including the door seal, at no cost as the parts were still under guarantee and I took out a plan. When the engineer came he said it could not be fixed, i asked if he would replace the door seal but he said it was not under guarantee and i would have to pay. I agreed and paid for the door seal and the engineer said he would order the part and return within a few days. He did not return and I contacted Domestic & General but they would not help either by contacting the engineer or giving me his contact detail. I consider this dishonest as their engineer had my money and they would not help. Luckily I paid by credit card and i could do a 'charge back' to stop my payment. I complained and Domestic and General admitted that they were at fault but would not compensate me for all my phone calls and inconvenience. If this is how they treat customers I will never deal with them again.”
“Originally took out policy on appliances on 8/4/22. Was supposed to receive email that day or next with the policy info. Also, policy info would be provided by regular mail in 7-10 days. Did not receive email and called again. Email address had been input incorrectly. Was told that I would receive email the next day. I did finally receive an email that allowed me to create an on-line account; but still no information pertaining to the policy. When I attempted to create an account, based on the received email, their system wouldn't allow it. System kept indicating that the zip code I was inputting was not valid. As of 9/8/22 I still had not received policy in mail. I called and was told that the original email that is sent out is only sent once. If it goes to the wrong address -- tough!! No way to resend it. (What a hell of a way to run a business.) I asked the representative I was speaking with about the inability to create an account due to the zip code issue. She suggested it was possibly a system error and I could try again tomorrow. This was at least my third attempt at creating an account, on different days, with all attempts failing due to the same issue -- invalid zip code. The representative went on to say that there was nothing she could do about not being able to create an account -- no referral to someone else, nothing!!! At this point, I decided to cancel this plan. Now, I'll wait to see if I actually receive my refund and no future charges are placed on my card.”
“Boiler cover - unable to speak to anyone on hold for ages, the. When I did get put through they couldn’t be less interested didn’t listen to me and redirected me to the service department which was incorrect. When I did speak to someone I was told I would need to wait 48hours -4 days for a replacement/repair offer. It had already taken 5 working days to get them to process the claim!!!! Do not use this company !!!”
“We signed up for a contract to get our washer fixed. I waited all day for the tech to come but never showed up. I call them after 5 pm. and was told the tech canceled our appointment and rescheduled us for the following week. We'll, again I waited all day but I decided to call them earlier than I did last week. I was told the weren't coming because they couldn't get in contact with us on our phone. That was a lie because I had both the house phone and my cell phone right next to me all day and nobody called on either phone. Then a tech finally called after the fact and said the best the can do is next week Wednesday or Thursday. "NEXT WEEK!!! THAT'S 3 WEEKS OF WAITING!!! Don't waste your money!! They didn't have a problem taking our money. They took our money quick, fast, and in a hurry. Don't waste your money!!”

“Appalling cover. You pay whilst appliances in warranty period, it turns out for accidental damage only. Once out of warranty they bump up prices (& say told me in email that probably went to junk). Then phone up to complain and complains dept wont take phone calls (I wonder why?!!) and I ask about claiming for accidental damage and they say that accidental dints etc not covered! Treatment disgraceful, my advice is avoid D&G, dont waste your money.”

“Very poor customer service and all you hear is one sided dictation. 0% effort put into investigating the complaint, I have not received a response to my complaint and raised the dispute in writing but to date I have not had any response.
My microwave stopped working which was replaced by domestic and general and now they are saying that this is not covered under the policy to get a repair. I have been with them for many years but advise everyone to stay away from them.”
