It says it charges between £4.99 & £24.99, but even one of the cheaper teachers I was charged £24.99 and when I emailed asking for an explanation, they failed to answer. I als asked why they charge the tutee rather than the tutor, since it is the tutor that is making the money.

Dear Steve, Thank you for your feedback. You chose a tutor that charged 30 pounds per hour, our intro fee for this is 24.99. If you had chosen a tutor which charges 10 pounds per hour for example then the intro fee would have been 4.99. We did send an email to you explaining the different intro fees on the 19th of Nov at 19:25, please let me know if you didn't receive that email or if you have further questions. I wish you the best of luck with your new tutor. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

Dear Manisha, Thank you for your feedback. We're very sorry to hear that you feel our introduction fee is expensive. We offer tutors with a variety of introduction fees from £4.99 - £24.99 so it shouldn't be hard to find a more affordable one on the site if money is a problem. Please be assured our introduction fee covers more than just the release of the tutor's details. It allows us to cover the cost of security checks on all tutors on the site which include collecting at least two references, photo ID and ensuring they reside in the UK. We believe that security and safety on the site is utmost and gives peace of mind to all parties concerned. Should you have any problems with your tutor or any further queries please do contact customer service via the Contact Us page. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service Team First Tutors

I have recently got a tutor for my daughter through First Tutors. This is the first time I am looking for a tutor and doesn't know what process is involved to confirm a tutor through this website. It was quite easy to get in touch with tutor and convey the requirements. However, the fee required to release tutor details came to know at the end of this process which is bit a disappointment. I couldn't look into other websites to compare this as I was in bit hurry to get a tutor. Overall, I didn't have any other issues and the communication was ok.

Dear Ramadasan, Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback. Information surrounding our fees can be found on the home page, the 'about us' page and is also displayed on your requests to tutors. I'm sorry if you felt this was unclear. Our fees help cover the cost of identity and reference checks on all of our tutors. We do have a customer support team working seven days a week to help answer any queries you have surrounding payment. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with us if you require further clarification. Best of luck with your tutor! Kind Regards, Sarah First Tutors

My sons tutor is working out very well, and it is starting to show in his last few exams. The website however can use some work. Too many variables and “hoops “ to jump through, should be a little more simpler..... sorry.

Overall, the site was easy to use. I found other users comments helpful. However I am now going to go back to word of mouth for referrals and finding tuition as the tutor we found using the site was not up to scratch. Interesting experience but still do not have a tutor and this learning experience has cost me time and money.

Your web site is convenient but it FORCES me down a route which is irrititating ......it only allows me to go for one tutor at a time. I wanted to try two in parallel for a while and choose the one whose teaching style best suited me Your site would not let me do this and cut me off from the second tutor before I could explain my intentions

When we tried to arrange a location to meet up, the location was continuously removed by the website administrator which became very frustrating. The tutor was aware of the issue and had previously contacted the site administrator about the issue, but it still has not been rectified.

Dear Michelle, Thank you for your feedback. I'm afraid we do not permit exact meeting points via the private forum. I appreciate this seems like a strict measure, but it is put in place to avoid users bypassing thy system and meeting up prior to payment. In the request, we have a Map and distance calculator which allows you and your tutor to see the distance by road and also the approximate location of the other party. As soon as your tutor has accepted and payment has been made you can discuss specific meeting points. If you have any further questions surrounding this, please contact support and we will be happy to help. Wishing you the best of luck with your new tutoring arrangement. Dear Esther, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover the cost of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. The intro fee is based on the tutor's hourly rate so if for example you can only afford 10 pounds per hour you would only pay 4.99 intro fee. Regarding the problem with what the tutor charged you this needs to be investigated. The tutor should have only charged you the advertised rate showing in the original request so I will email you now to clear this up and provide a solution. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

Great way of finding tutors, although I think it should be a one off fee to release details, not per tutor!

User interface could be improved to advertise from parents perspective. Some of tutors do not respond. Which is annoying given the time and effort it takes to identify someone potentially suitable.

Charged £25.00 to get a tutors details! Had to go through the contact process before discovering the final charge. This cost should be split at the very least.

Dear Mike, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee is displayed on First Tutor's homepage, it is also displayed in the request next to the tutor´s hourly fee. The intro fee helps cover the costs of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. We don't charge tutors because we are not permitted by UK employment regulations (Organisations must not charge individuals seeking work) We wish you the best of luck with your new tutor. If you encounter any problems please do not hesitate to contact us via email, we are here to help. Kind regards Sara Customer Service Team First Tutors.

An easy to use service which is helpful to put you in touch with tutors but I am not sure to what extent the agency vet their tutors as our tutor was not experienced at structuring a lesson therefore it had limited value .

Dear Kate, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your tutor has been a disappointment. As we did not hear from you we assumed everything was fine, but I have now emailed you instructions on how to register a complaint about a tutor. Please be assured we do carry out Photo ID checks, collect a minimum of two references and verify the tutors live in the UK. We will also check any qualifications they send to us to ensure they are real. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service Team First Tutors

In principle the system works well. However, having paid £25 for an introduction to a tutor who then turned out to be unsuitable for my son, we’ve effectively ended up paying £85 for 2 hours of tutoring.

Dear David, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you have been let down by your tutor. I paid 19.99 for an introductory fee - it's too expensive. I would not recommend this service - it is not value for money.

Dear Carmel, Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to hear you think our introduction fee is too expensive. We do believe First Tutors: Ireland is competitively priced as the average agency charges €10.00 on top of every hour of grinds. Our introduction fee is a one-off payment that covers the costs of security checks on all tutors for the safety and peace of mind of all parties. Please do email customer service if you have any further questions. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service Team First Tutors: Ireland

While we found a very good tutor through First Tutors the website was quite confusing. Returning to it once the first log in was complete was difficult initially and I found myself returning to the first confirmation email over and over again to ensure I didn't start a new search every time I visited. Trying to find a tutor within an easy driving distance was also a little painful. My daughter is at college In Hastings but I couldn't search for Hastings based tutors because the website thought I was too far away from them. The pricing system was also confusing. I thought that the £24.99 I paid was for the first lesson so was very surprised when the tutor, quite innocently, asked me for the money again. As it is, I am very happy with the tutor we found through the First Tutors website so I recommend persevering with the website. The tutors that contacted me were all very pleasant and helpful. So it does work - it's just very confusing!

Whilst the need for sparse information at first is sensible when you want to extract an introductory fee, it's also frustrating for the one who is searching for a pianist. Have yet to meet Fiona.

We do encourage all tutors and tutees to discuss all details prior to paying the introduction fee. You should never feel pressured into paying, and if you have we do apologise. Please do email customer service if you can't get hold of Fiona. Kind regards, Grace Customer Service Team First Tutors
