“I placed a large plant order with Gardening Express and almost every single plant arrived in poor condition – many had no buds or flowers despite being advertised as blooming, some were clearly dead. When I contacted customer service to request a refund or return, they completely dismissed my concerns and told me to just “give the plants a good drink.” This is not customer care – it’s deception. I strongly advise others to avoid this company. Truly disappointing experience.”

“Just a warning not to buy from Gardening Express. I bought 5 Cafe Au Lait Dahlia tubers in the autumn. They didn't look great at the time I bought them and I probably should have complained then. I'm a fairly experienced gardener and know how to look after tubers over winter - all carefully stored in sawdust. Not a single one sprouted (while all the rest of my dahlias sprouted fine) I wrote to GE and they said "We are unable to cover these as they require additional protection during the colder months to enable them to thrive." All that money down the drain”

“I ordered two trees and two strawberry plants on 30/03. At the time, their website stated: “Our current average Dispatch time is approx. 3-5 working days for all items in stock/season, but please allow up to 7-10 working days for dispatch during peak season/around public holidays.” Fair enough. But by 10/04 – nine working days later – my order still hadn’t even been dispatched. I emailed to chase, only to receive a vague “your order has now been picked” response on 11/04. No dispatch confirmation. No tracking. By 15/04, still nothing. I emailed again, pointing out the ridiculous delay. On 16/04 I was told my order was being dispatched that day. Great – except as of nearly 6pm, it still hadn’t been picked up. So, by their own admission, the plants have been picked and sat in a box somewhere for six days. No light, no water. No care. It’s utterly shambolic. I’ve had orders from other suppliers arrive the next day. Gardening Express, by comparison, feel like a case study in how not to run a business. The only thing they’ve delivered is frustration. I wish I’d read the real reviews – not the suspiciously glowing ones littered across their site. Based on this experience, I’m now just dreading what will actually show up. If it’s not shrivelled, half-dead rubbish, I’ll be shocked. Their customer service is terrible, their dispatch process is laughable, and their competitors are miles ahead. Gardening Express? More like Gardening Regress. A cowboy outfit that isn’t even fit for a rodeo. Avoid.”

“I bought 2 snake plants and they were dying within 4 days of them arriving. I stupidly didn't check Gardening Express 14 day guarantee (until today) and decided to try and save them by repotting the plants in a better draining potting mix. When repotting them, I discovered half of the plants had soggy, rotting roots. I did not water these plants after checking the soil, so i can only assume they were over watered prior to dispatch. V disappointed with gardening express, and the plants provided.”

“I ordered 8 plants to fill a gap in our hedge. No telephone number to ask questions, but had some email communication to give me an idea of spacing required. All OK so far. Then after ordering, two of my eight plants arrived. Confused, I called to see where the other 6 were? Assured they were coming soon... well four did, three days later. The other two got 'lost in transit' so I was offered a refund. No apology, and nothing done to make amends. The plants themselves were OK but you couldn't make it up!”

“I purchased: Ash & Steel : 7-piece Heavy Duty Stainless Steel Garden Tool Set - Essential Garden Tools Bundle This was for my Son's birthday as he was in the process of buying his first home. Unfortunately he the purchase didn't complete until October 2024 so has not used any of the tools until February 2025. The very first time he used the spade it snapped!! The response I recieved was "Unfortunately, these are not covered by our guarantees". Rubbish and not fit for purpose, so is the spade!”

“I am disgraced by what i have received. The product does not match the description. I am utterly shocked. The website clearly describes the order being fully grown plant , but they gave us a tinny chopped plant. Please do not use them, they are a scam company, there is no support or contact details. The delivery note clearly said Giant Flowered Mauve Hydrangea, but we got, tinny, non flowered. The delivery note also said, Holy Trees Covered in Berries in Basket, no basket came. They are cheating everyone.”

“I ordered a Miscanthus Little Zebra which took 10 days to arrive.It bears no resemblance to the photos showing a vigorous shrub with distinctive markings.This plant is a pathetic drab weed-like overgrown grass.Yea I should return but am disabled and can't face packing it up”

“What a rip off company avoid at all costs , ordered two large lavenders and got got two small plants cut back to base in a very large pot, the dim wit at customer services said ignore photo , they grow large , suggested plaster this with owner on linked in , may get a grown up response”

“I wish I have read these reviews before making my purchases 🥲 I ordered two Large Salix Flamingo plans at £39.90 plus £6.99 delivery What I expected was 2 full tall plants of 90 to 1.2m high, which was described in garden express’s website However when it arrived there were two 20cm Salix branches sitting on top of two plans sticks instead This is so disappointed and missed leading, I am buying the full plans and not a grafting cut of 20cm Also there’s some small branches that were broken And to return this I have to pay for shipping. I certainly will not order anymore from Garden Express and warn people to be careful of what they are buying before paying for it.”

“GARDENERS BEWARE. Plants were very small, very few leaves and very poor quality. When I complained to the company they said they will improve with growing! In my experience you want the best quality plants to begin with. POOR SERVICE. I will not use again.”

“What cowboys to say the least. Spent over a hundred on plants. They arrived battered, dead, broken stems and dry as.a.bone. no water for transit. They couldn't be saved despite paying over £30 in products to help revive. I contacted gardening express immediately. What a farce.. supply pictures, prove your invoice, etc. despite me providing everything. Then we need to the shipping box. What a load of rubbish. Then ah well we can offer you £20 refund. No love I want a full refund they are dead!! I want a refund. Then radio silence. Ten plus emails sent. Clearly now ignoring all communications. I've reported to trading standards and the ombudsman. STAY CLEAR OF THESE CROOKS. Use other sites like roots plants or the garden centre nearby if you don't want the hassle. I'm happy to provide emails and photographs to prove the poor performance of this disgraceful company. 0 stars would be given if the option were available.”

“Took weeks for delivery so I had to write multiple emails and then was dumped on my doorstep on a day when I specifically asked for it not to be delivered. Customer service poor. The timings on their website are lies. Refused to give me any sort of refund for the stress and inconvenience. Avoid”

“Total shambles of a company , order some hedges and a Japanese maple , the hedges and the other little plants looked like the were thrown in the box with no protection whatsoever then to top.it all I ordered a Japanese maple which was covered in brown spot when it arrived , u sent them pics but apparently they couldn't see the spots and asked for more pics , now they have blocked me so I've had to take it up with bank , plus their attitude stinks , avoid at all costs”

“Ordered clematis and nemesia the nemesia wad dead and squashed by the nemesia threw it away,they say take photos they said couldnt make it out send again you cant talk to them what a shamble of a company stay well away.”
