The telematics device records acceleration at every roundabout as excessive. Given that the only way to safely get onto the A27 is quickly this seems ridiculously punitive. Sleeping policemen also appear to record as excess acceleration and deceleration. As our acceleration score never left zero for the whole year in a Hyundai i10 998cc, I wonder what a car that can reach 70 miles an hour in less than 2 minutes would score? Minus 100? We got the almost standard threatening phone call after a couple of weeks and at the end of the year have now not been offered another years insurance, though I had no intention of staying anyway. Smartmiles telematics box clearly does not include any intelligent technology, nor is there any use of AI to properly interpret the results or application of a real meat brain when contacting their technical department to find out why the acceleration score has always been zero. Finally just to mention. All of this hassle for a car worth less than £5k and which only traveled 5361 miles over the year.

Already having been with them for a year they have been quite good insurers. Reasonable pricing, the cheapest at the moment, the SmartMiles app is very handy in tracking my driving as well as referring to for reference. The customer service is good although upon renewal they did mess up by trying to set up a finance agreement rather than take it from the previously paid card. When I spoke to them to resolve the matter it was swiftly dealt with.

Really chuffed with my renewal price. Having a smart miles box has really lowered my price. No price comparison site could get anywhere near the price that I paid for my renewal. Nice to not get ripped off for once.

Cancelled policy but still trying to take money from the bank. Tried to contact by phone, waiting over 10 mins to be answered, did not get through. Emailed instead waiting for reply.

I didn?t get told about my curfew on my box, this was I couldn?t go out between 10pm and 5 am. So I went out at 11pm one day and they gave me a warning, and that was the first time I had heard about my curfew I paid ?1400 for a curfew on my own car ?

Hi Charlie, I am sorry to hear you are unhappy. We do not set a curfew on our policies, but do rate on the time of day in which you drive. Statistics show us you are much more likely to be involved in an accident at night compared to during the day and as SmartMiles a policy encouraging safe driving, we do heavily weight our scores with time of day. They made a mistake when I was wrongly assessed as speeding. The data was put right and I had a small refund. Hopefully the data will will correct this year.

The smart miles insurance itself was OK apart from the curfew so no driving after 10pm or before 5am which significantly affects your rating negatively. The biggest issue I had is that 3 weeks before my policy came to an end I had found insurance elsewhere so made a phone call to Hastings smart miles to cancel my renewal and was informed that my cancellation was confirmed. 3 weeks later I receive an email confirming that my insurance had been renewed with Hastings smart miles and as I pay my insurance in full the full amount had been deducted from my account. I phoned Hastings smart miles immediately stating what had happened and even though I was now overdrawn I now had to wait 3-5 working days for my refund, and as it was bank holiday weekend I had to wait 4 more. Not happy

Really pleased with using the SmartMiles application and how it has helped me to improve my driving. I am really pleased with the savings I have made on my insurance. Great customer service and communication.

Great service however, the guy reading the terms on the phone before you get through to anyone goes on too long. I always try avoiding calling because of this reason. Sad that you can't take you telematics box out with SmartMile's

Do some work for a change. Instead of asking customer to do it all. The customer has to do all the work for them if not they charge ?25 to do it.

Be more helpful if they used the current score for their renewal after a year's worth of driving instead of 11 months, especially if it "magically" changed for the better. Also not sure how said score improved by 15 points in a matter of days!

Hello, I'm sorry for any frustration that this has caused. The price tends to be generated after 11 months so that there is time for the renewal on a whole to be sorted whether that be; allowing sufficient time for the documents to reach you, you have time to shop around or to contact the renewals team to discus the price. If this was done in the 12th month then the risk would be of the policy running for longer than a year. I hope this didn't cause too much of an inconvenience and you were able to get a competitive prce for your renewal -Theo
