“There is a good cross section of views in the various articles.
In the "ask Alan" & "the money cafe" podcasts I sometimes get the impression that the commentators are seeing the questions for the first time which leads sometimes to a weak or vague response. It would be a better experience if the questions were better researched prior to offering a response.”
“I am a circa 20 year member. It is my main tool for share purchase information.
I enjoy the plain speaking, especially John Addis and James Carlisle
There appears to be a significant imbalance in the number of BUY recommendations between some analysts leading one to feel one or two may be more "bullish" by nature. I would like to have thought this could be mitigated by the use of the Dragons den.”
“I find emails/articles interesting but it would be good to do some stories around top 100 companies across different industries based on investment outlook - growth, income, etc modelled on investment cycle (beginner, mature, risk taker, risk adverse, retirement, etc).
Thanks”
“I have been very impressed by the team this year with some cracking recommendations (like REH, Audinate, FDV). But I also like the caution and have sold out of a few things that were a bit frothy after reading your assessment (BTH and NTO). I find it harder to sell things than to buy so even if you write up a stock and decide it is too pricey that is very helpful in terms of selling if I hold that stock. I find some of the calls in the model portfolios a bit hard to reconcile with whatever the current recommendation is and would like a bit more consistency there. I also would like to see more emphasis on smaller stocks where I think there is more alpha than the large ones, and also some of the more recent IPOs like NUIX and Hipage (HPG). But overall I think you have navigated the last 12 months brilliantly in very difficult circumstances.”
“Unbiased, transparent advice on Australian equities and good general advice on investment principles. Advice is not fool-proof but for long term investors who are prepared to set aside time to read, learn, trade occasionally and be actively involved with their investments (which isn't everyone), you're much more likely to do better by following their advice than buying a parcel of ETFs.”
“Find the stock review and research useful.
I have done well on some of your recommendations.
Podcasts are interesting and helpful. Thank you and keep up the good work”
“I highly value the in-depth analysis and explanation of all the Intelligent Investor recommendations. The audited performance report proves the recommendations are good, while the commitment to retrospective analysis of what worked and what didn't means that we are all continually learning and improving (rather than stumbling blindly from one mistake to the next).”
“I have subscribed to the Intelligent Investor and Eureka report for many years. While I obviously choose which of their recommendations to follow, I have always found them to be carefully researched, and balanced in their presentation. My superannuation is divided into a portion that is managed by an unrelated professional financial advisor firm, and that which I manage. Thanks to the Intelligent Investor package I have significantly out performed the professional firm. Being careful, I will maintain this split until I retire, but I am now very comfortable managing a significant portfolio with above industry returns. Thank you to all involved.”
“I subscribed to Intelligent Investor when it merged with Eureka Report and Alan Kohler joined the team. This provides me with an additional source of financial analysis and is a great balance for the other newsletters I also read.. I am pleased whenever the II Analysts provide a company overview for a company in my portfolio. I scan all new reviews and select those that interest me, normally using the email prompts but sometimes using the home page on the website.Particularly when examining my portfolio and undertaking a bit of rebalancing.
I also use any changes to the recommendations offered by the analysts as a trigger closer analysis on my holdings. The II materials produce about one quarter of the input I read and absorb on a weekly basis.”
“The research articles are well researched and generally very good value. However, I have one complaint. Few people would undertake an investment without first examining the financials of a company and nowhere in the Intelligent Investor format are company financials (B/Sheet, Cash Flows, P & L, etc.) supplied; current, historic or future. Indeed, in some cases not even such basics as debt ratios or PEs are supplied. Since the suggested investments are frequently small or lesser known companies it is often difficult to find the information elsewhere. Even when the information is available elsewhere it would nevertheless have been far more convenient to have it alongside the research motivating the enquiry. Could you please supply company financials somewhere on the website?
I stress that this is by way of a constructive criticism. I am very happy with the quality of the research provided and have made several excellent investments on your suggestions - hence my recent renewal of my subscription.
Regards,
Ray Pridmore”
“Many thanks to the team at TII. Informed share advice from people with no agendas, and educational info to help me be a better investor. No-ones right all the time but this crew have a pretty good strike rate and they are willing to own their failures as well as their successes”
“I have been investing in shares for 34 years from when I was 30. Prior to my subscription many years ago to The Intelligent Investor, the only advice I received was from my stockbroker. That experience was valuable, in that brokers generally base their advice as if you were a trader ... you know, a 10% to 15% gain or loss here & there whilst paying brokerage and tax. Yet I was more the buy and hold, long term 'value' investor wanting to invest in high quality companies with good dividends, then reinvest the cash into more shares. So I was excited to have found The Intelligent Investor team, as our investing philosophies align. I consistently beat the market and my accountant says I should have been a Fund Manager. Little does he know that my 'self directed' investing is thanks to The Intelligent Investor's sound research. I loaded up the truck big time in late March/early April 2020 and have received tremendous returns in high quality companies.
Having lots of fun but it's a game of patience and you certainly need the discipline and personality for it.
Thanks to all of the team at The Intelligent Investor.”
