“When looking at the endless world of finance software out there, at first I didn’t see how Kubera fit in. It seemed overly simple, like it was missing features compared to other big name financial planning or budgeting software that also allowed for connected accounts and net worth dashboards. After using it though, I see now that Kubera is not trying to replace the other planning software or budgeting software you may use. It is intended to compliment them by adding an entirely new tool to the box. It is not trying to do everything. It is striving to do what it does better than anyone else and in my opinion they have succeeded. What they provide is a clean, clear place to track every possible asset and debt you have, organized exactly the way that suits your needs, with endless configurability. Further, the real strength it has better than any other tool I have used is a deep and robust connection architecture that allows for connecting not just bank and brokerage accounts, but obscure credit cards, HSA custodian, mortgages, auto loans, home value estimates, car value estimates, and more. And for brokerage accounts, it not only pulls in account balances, but actual ticker, share qty, and cost basis data (something I could not find anywhere else and I really tried). And best of all, these connections are constantly monitored for reliability with their own dashboard showing you how well they are working. And if you have an issue (which I did with a couple), you can email Kubera and a real person will troubleshoot and provide real solutions quickly including pivoting to different connector tools (ie Plaid, MX, Yodlee, etc) if needed. To me this is where they really shine. They are not trying to do everything, but instead do these core things really really well. Another feature geared toward the DIY crowd that I wasn’t even aware of when I subscribed that I now see as indispensable is their API support. I originally planed to just download CSV files in order to pull the data into excel for some rebalancing tasks, then I learned I could use their API and Excel Power Query to automate the entire process. This is now a core part of my financial management and something no one else is offering. I can not express how much I am pleased with their product and have found it to be truly worth its cost.”
