“For the second time, MPB has rated the gear I was trading in higher than I rated it. I called my gear "Good" for a camera body, a lens and 4 additional OEM batteries. Upon receiving the equipment, MPB rated everything as "Excellent" and increased my trade credit commensurately. That kind of honestly is much appreciated. They could have gone with my assessment, but didn't, saving me money on the camera I was ordering from them.”
“I rarely post things like this, but this experience deserves transparency.
I recently filed a claim with MPB after sending a high-value parcel via DPD. The parcel arrived with items missing, resulting in a loss of £2,500. MPB have declined responsibility, stating there were “no signs of tampering” — despite acknowledging damage to the outer packaging.
What’s concerning is the complete lack of verifiable evidence provided to support that conclusion.
No CCTV footage from DPD handling points.
No parcel weight logs across transit.
No clear chain of custody.
Without this, it’s difficult to understand how either party can confidently determine where the loss occurred — yet the outcome is that the customer is left absorbing the loss.
A “small tear” in packaging does not rule out interference, full opening and then repackaging, especially without supporting data like consistent weight tracking throughout the parcel’s journey.
I’ve formally requested full disclosure of the investigation evidence. Until that’s provided, this decision feels unsupported.
Based on this experience, I would strongly advise against using MPB’s services for sending high-value items, as the protection and accountability in cases like this appear insufficient and do not exist.
If you’re sending anything valuable, I strongly recommend:
– Photographing and weighing your parcel before dispatch
– Keeping detailed records
– Being cautious about relying on courier liability processes
This isn’t just frustrating — it raises serious concerns about accountability between MPB and DPD when something goes wrong.
If anyone has advice on escalation routes or has dealt with a similar situation, I’d appreciate hearing your experience.”
“though i always feel like i can get a little more selling on marketplace or offerup and that an Like New condition is priced closely to a sale item on B&H, i do have to say that the claim of “less hassle” was worth the $150 or so that i could probably waited out on and i bought the extra warranty but i felt like the camera i got was brand new”
“Sold all my canon equipment from over the years and bought “excellent” rated updated gear on a trade and had an excellent experience selling my old friend”
“Sent in an as-new BOXED Sony camera for a trade-in. Had previously had a large amount of email communication with their staff to be absolutely sure they had quoted on the correct camera and lenses before they quoted £105 and I sent the equipment to them for inspection. When it arrived, they decided they only wanted to buy half the kit and at a significantly lower price (approximately £40) because what they had quoted for was not what I supplied. Despite this being their own error they were unwilling to honour the quote so I requested it be returned.
The camera arrived back. They had disposed of my original box, manual, software CD and memory card and sent the kit back in a plain box. This significantly devalues my ability to resell the equipment at a maximised price!
The company only ever offer empty words of apology, hide behind terms and conditions you're never going to read and the "compensation" they offer is £10 off spending over £99 with them which I am never, ever going to want to do.
Shady and frankly dishonest business practices, no care for customers or their belongings and treat your kit as theirs to do what they want with despite it not being theirs.
I would actively discourage anyone from dealing with MPB. I engaged with them on a recommendation and I dearly wish I'd never done so. Disappointed, angry and taken advantage of, that's my experience.”
“The MPB trade-in process was quick and efficient, my quote was even upgraded after MPB received my trade-in and I love the six month warranty. The camera I received in trade was in wonderful condition and I am very happy. And, MPB stepped up to the plate when Fedex initially lost my package containing my camera equipment to be traded. The package was found, but then Fedex claimed the package was damaged. A quick call to MPB assured me that they would take care of any necessary insurance claim. That was not necessary in the end, but it was nice to know that they would deal with that issue!”
“Trade in process was easy and they didn’t lowball me on what I sent in and the gear I got in the trade was in great condition and is working amazing!”
“The condition of the lens was immaculate. I have purchased a few used lenses none have been in as good condition as this lens . I plan to make mob my main stop for used gear”
“I have sold, purchased, and traded over the past couple of years with MPB. I find their website to be easily navigated. Their descriptions and ratings are accurate upon receipt of items either purchased or traded for and prices paid when I have sold items are in line with what other businesses like B&H photo offer. I recommend considering MPB if you’re looking to purchase, trade or sell quality photography lenses or cameras.”
“They offered a reasonable price on my trade in gear and the lenses I purchased. Their customer support team was quick to respond to my questions as well. Overall an A+ experience.”
“So far, MPB has been totally fantastic in every aspect ranging from customer service to prompt delivery of gear. I recently had a trade-in for some lens and it was the smoothest, seamless transaction ever. I even had a few questions prior to that and emailed customer service. I received prompt and precise responses pertaining to my questions. With regards to delivery time of gear, maybe it's because I live in the east coast but I pretty much get my gear 2 to 3 days after delivery and this is without paying extra fees for expedited deliveries. I once got my shipment 2 days after I ordered! Love that!
I have zero complaints with MPB so far and hope to keep it that way. They are always updating thier inventory (I was in search for a Canon 100-500mm RF lens and it was unavailable for a little while but in about two weeks, I saw 3 of them pop up! And they all literally went within the same week (hot item for this time of year I guess?) ). Anyway, I got the item I needed and totally thrilled with it thus far.
Thanks MPB for all your excellent work and customer service!”
“found the camera I wanted and traded an older camera in to lower the cost of the one I found;
Worked perfectly and the new camera was marked (e) under original packaging but when it arrived it was in a Leica Box with all the accessories. Perfectly packed.
(e) on other sites frequently refers to Downloadable documentation.
Very please with the ease of trade/purchase and timely arrival of the almost new Leica Q2.”
