Thank you for sharing your experience. We're sorry to hear that the PortaMill PM14 didn't meet your expectations. While it is a cost-effective and efficient option, it does have limitations in terms of log size and productivity. For larger projects, a band blade mill might be a better fit. Please contact our Customer Service at 1-800-567-0404 (+1-705-325-0030 for international) or info@norwoodsawmills.com to discuss options that better suit your needs. We're here to help find the right solution for your projects!
Thank you for your feedback and for choosing Norwood.
“Had my mn27 for two years. Learned a lot about sawing lumber. All in all, it's been a great machine. Sawmill tv is excellent for someone just getting into milling.”
“you need to bunk kit to see any smaller length wood. Then you require the extra dogs to have on the bunk kit so after spending thousands you will need to spend close to 1000 more . The weather proof tarp that was also extra, $300 I believe, and no where close to fitting the saw mill, your better off buying a no name tarp for it.”
“Owner of lm30,Dont like the trailer package and i always have a bow in the rails so the mill can dip down to à 1/4 inch if its not reset every second trip. A lot of maintenance and time between contracts to spend on the mill, really getting frustration, should of bought à mill with straight one piece beams, really disapointed , maybe its my fault for not choosing the right one.”
“I like the sawmill. It works well for me. The reason for 4 stars is the handle broke the first week and the motor has a terrible bang noise. Seems to run and cut just fine. I also ordered the manual log turner. It is a joke.”
“I've had my LM2000 since around 2001 & have sawen a pile of lumber. Bought it mainly for my own use to deal with dieing trees I felt were to good to turn into firewood. Over the yrs. from word of mouth I've had many customers order lumber for numerous projects and all have commented how perfect the boards, siding, beams or what ever it was they order was the dimentions were perfect. Still cuts as accurate as the day I assembled it . My only gripe with the mill is the tentioning set up for the drive belt has a lot to be desired. Over all it's been one of the best investmants i've made.”
“Même si j'ai acheté une scierie mobile usagé Norwood , j'ai eu aucun problème à acheter des options de plus et j'ai toujours été très bien informé pour toute mes questions . Je recommanderais Norwood à toutes personnes qui recherchent une scierie mobile de qualité et qui offre un excellent service après vente . Merci Norwood pour le cadeau gratuit de la casquette même si je n'avais pas acheté la scierie mobile neuve chez vous !”
“I have a lm29 and also a porta mill PM14 with 20 foot of their track , well built and designed very well , we went with our own frame / trailer for their track , super good service and nice people”
“I have a 23 hp Briggs and Stratton engine vtwin that has never worked properly. I've tried cleaning carburetor, changing plugs, fuel pump etc.. may get 1 good day out of the engine and it's back to backfiring, sputtering, idling rough, blowing black smoke and shutting off. I'm so disappointed after spending so much money to purchase your mill. I was hoping to have someone representing Briggs and Stratton to come here and service the engine rather than remove it from the mill but no such luck. Very dissatisfied but do like the design of the mill.”
“Great sawmill for the price. Norwood’s been around for a long time and it’s a North American product, which is why I didn’t go with a chinese made mill. They have a great support team( something you really need when you’re new at milling like I am). The mill has a great powder coat finish and galvanized tracks. My neighbor has a chinese mill and it’s already rusted and faded. Mine still looks like the day I bought it.”
“Great experience putting it all together with few problems. The mill is operating perfectly and any problems or issues are easy to correct.
LOVE this machine!”
“Challenges I've encountered as a Norwood sawmill owner:
The frame design on the HD36v2 I purchased is insufficient to withstand the lateral forces that act upon it when using the hydraulic log clamp. The framerail will develop a visible bow.
The assembly instructions failed to address the need to line up the cross bunks and the hydraulic log loader, allowing a smooth transition of the log to roll from the loader to the bed. I strongly believe that an additional cross bunk should be included when purchasing the hydraulic log loader. The current number is insufficient to adequately support logs on the bed when spaced for the log loader.
The water flow control valve spins at the grommet. In addition, the spring loaded valve that controls the flow of water when throttling up/down does not stop the flow of water when engaged. The cable is adjusted to provide the maximum amount of spring pressure - still not enough.
The hydraulic reservoir sits too high. I've had logs sit on it without realizing - holding them off the cross bunks.
The housing of the jack stands is too tall. When setting up on fairly level ground, they stick up to where the plastic blade guards hit the handles when the sawhead is lowered to saw 1" boards. It should be about 1.5" shorter.
What I like:
I like that the sawmill can be lengthened, and that power options can be added.
I like how easy it is to change out blades.
I like that the trailer tongue is easily removed.
I like the ease in which both the Vanguard and the Honda engines start.”
