I really like openstudio, I think it's a great platform to learn jazz and develop more integrally as an artist. The only thing that makes me uncomfortable, is that during some lessons, the teacher while explaining something basic, unexpectedly starts playing scales and chords, extremely difficult, to make a point... That confuses me a lot... It's like taking basic physics classics, and then the teacher suddenly starts explaining the quantum laws of the multiverse, and then unexpectedly goes back to the basic physics of pulleys. Anyway I am very grateful for the opportunity to take classes with the great teachers at openstudio. I would like to see more female teachers who are not just singers in the lessons. Regards. J.

The IG short reels are packed with enough good leads to work on. Decided to try the 14 day intro and take a peek under the hood. Wow. Plenty to roll with. Online learning is new to me but this is really well thought out. Also a connection into a distant community of like minded students of music.

Anything you want to know about Jazz or learn how to play Jazz, Open Studio has you covered. The lessons are "crazy good" and presented in a great format always presented with a fantastic instructor. The only thing that I would like added to the program is a pathway through the maze of great info. Perhaps you could qualify members as to their playing level and knowledge of jazz and then send recommendations or suggestions that would support that individuals experience.

I’ve been an Open Studio member for just over a year, and I can hardly count the ways I’ve grown. I’m a better player, a better listener, and I’m living a more musical life. OS has lessons that stretch me, paired with instructors and a community that make me feel supported. I’m very grateful to both the OS team and the community.

Good, open-hearted multi-stranded learning environment. Adam’s guided learning practice sessions are the best. I feel I’m making progress after years of treading water. Thanks!

Right off the bat, I had incredible and fun lessons from Peter Martin, Emmet Cohen, and Jeremy Siskind. I can keep reviewing these lessons to get more and more from them because they are packed full of great stuff. Well worth it.

Open Studio has been great for my jazz study and development! I have not taken any kind of jazz/music lessons since the 1970's and have basically been on my own learning what I could from various jazz method books, listening to jazz and playing in groups for many years. In a very short time the training with Open Studio has really accelerated my jazz improvisational skills with new ideas and concepts that I was not previously aware of. I'm looking forward to being a much better jazz musician with the help of Open Studio!

Every day I sit at my piano and start my day with an Adam who doesn't know me but that I have developped an attentive relationship with. I am an ex-Berklee upright bass and arrangement student and decided, after a 40 years long medical practice, to start afresh with the piano. Quite a challenge that I tuck in every day like a yoga session with no professional goals and no desire for recognition as a musician. Just sheer pleasure. Music saves! Christopher

I love the piano, but I've rarely felt permission be vulnerable in my jazz skills development process. I studied classical for 9 years and began studying jazz and playing piano in a jazz ensemble twice a week in an ARTS High School along with theory classes twice a week. I went to one of the best music schools in the world majoring in jazz/commercial piano studies and the entire process was painful, like navigating chaos in frozen mud. The Open Studio Podcast/You'll Hear It Podcast allowed me into conversations I was not privy to/was afraid to join because I never quite knew my skill level, but I definitely understand it's not good enough for me to ever sit in on a jam session or take requests. So this is another "healing" story. I'm within the 14 free days trial and can't quite afford to join YET... But I'm enjoying exploring the courses. Heck, I pray for the grace to be a beginner and chose the beginners video and for the first time learned why the difference between piano lengths made a difference in tone and the difference between grand pianos and upright pianos. See what I mean? Things are straightening out without legacy, race or status getting in the way (another story). With music school my experience was you had to already be a genius in order to get the proper attention needed (I actually witnessed that over and over). Now maybe I can get some organized structure and see real results from practice, not just grandstanding because I collected a few complicated chords but not know what to do with them. I hope this made sense. Open Studio seems to be doing things positively and very well. ~ Geocosmic Valentine

I’m loving the course on Paul Chambers style. Would love more specific courses tailored in the same way for other bassists. A similar courses on Ray Brown would be great. I’d love to see similar offerings for contemporary electric jazz bass as well. Maybe a focused course on Hadrien Feraud? Just throwing that out there

So glad to be back on the OsPro platform again since the waiting list was recently reopened. This is by far the best learning resource for all Jazz musicians from the beginner and amateur to the professional. You will gain so much from these fantastic teachers. I personally benefit from the structure of weekly classes that make it easy to follow a dedicated pathway. As a Double bassist a big shout out to Bob Deboo whose lessons impart a wealth of knowledge in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Lastly, in terms of value for money I get 4 lessons per week on Double bass but also dip into all the other courses such as the Pentatonic course by Adam Maness. Definitely value for money.
