It is my main source of piano inspiration and where I go to learn in order to be a better musician

Open studio manages to be relevant to beginning jazz students and professionals. There is great interplay among the students. The Hang, a kind of face book for jazz, is pure and always positive. Which is to say it is the anti-Facebook. It is a community. The many courses will give you more information that a single person could ever digest. The faculty are without exception exceptional. There is a joy vibe with every live session, and the teachers and other attendees without fail are encouraging and supportive of people playing before the class, irrespective of level. I loved jazz enough to take a chance on paying the membership fee. Now I love and appreciate jazz more than ever. Now, I consider that getting my money's worth.

It’s been a great way to stay accountable, and push myself to learn some things I wouldn’t otherwise. Jeremy’s songwriting course was a nice surprise that I would not have pursued on my own, but I ended up learning a lot about song structure that helps me learn and understand standards, but surprised me by how much fun it was to write my own tunes as well! Really great community, thank you!

This studio offers eye and ear openers of a vast collection of daily lessons and courses. I love that the students' abilities range from 'just beginning' players to working artists with support from everyone at all levels from colleagues and instructors. The studio is professionally run and produced yet maintains the personal touch. I can think of no other resource and complete and as easily accessible.

Open Studio is fantastic! The teachers know their stuff and how to communicate in clear, supportive, and engaging ways. There are tons of online courses from from today's Jazz masters like Ron Carter, Emmet Cohen, Geoffrey Keezer, Sean Jones, Dianne Reeves, and many more, all there to learn from and listen to again and again. Weekly mentor sessions with the tops in Jazz today offer perspective and guidance you can immediately apply to your playing. Joining OS was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that Open Studio has been life changing. The sheer breadth and variety of what is offered means that there are endless fascinating musical paths to explore. And it’s not just the technical and theoretical side of the jazz education that has been invaluable (although it has been), it is the attitudinal, mental, and communal education that is almost as valuable, and quite a surprise to me. And the wonderful international community of participants with shared interests and challenges, all of whom are hugely supportive of each other, is an enormous — and unexpected — plus.

Great community of musicians. Way more resources than I have time to make use of! I have mostly studied with Chris Parks. I finally feel like I’m making some progress in my playing, and I’m very thankful. Bob DeBoo’s rhythm training class is great, though I have not been attending regularly. I just wish I had more time to dig in to all the offerings.

Open studio is invaluable to me. OS has helped me create an excellent practice routine incorporating the many aspects of jazz rather than concentrating to much on one thing. Thank you!

The history of jazz is a also a history of communities. What is magical about Open Studio is the spirit of community that the founders nature — and which members come to embody. The experience has been overwhelmingly positive — not just for the quality of the instruction, but also for the opportunity to engage with like-minded learners.

Three primary offerings rolled into one: Mentoring; structured learning/practice; and a community that is active, supportive, and collaborative. Jazz has not benefitted in the past from a strict "teacher/student" approach. Community feedback and support helps a lot, and the mentoring that comes through interactive videos are priceless.

Making so much progress from my OS interactions, attending sessions live or recorded. I love getting feedback from OS instructors, always on point and actionable. I just need to retire so I can work on more.

From top to bottom, this is a great, all-around jazz education platform. They lave lessons from some of the best jazz musicians around, and they are excellent teachers too. Despite being on video or videoconference, you can tell how much teaching us, the students, means to them. And, they teach it in an informative, accessable way. If you don't get better, it's on you.
