I found Adam & Peters YouTube videos during the pandemic and open studio as a result. I love the quality and the way they approach teaching Jazz Piano. Certainly the combination of their free stuff (of which there's a lot) and the paid courses make the open studio Jazz tuition the best available online.

The content is really good but it's very difficult to navigate within a video (e.g. 5sec back or forward) and the keyboard shortcuts don't work either. I hope this will improve soon...

Hi Ryusuke, thanks for taking the time to give us a review. We do actually have a series of keyboard shortcuts that can help you in both the Living Notation player and the Simple Player. Check them out here: https://openstudio.helpscoutdocs.com/article/274-can-i-rewind-instantly-a-few-seconds-of-a-lesson Best, Dan co-founder, Open Studio

Impressive range of artists who have generated video content. Great tech innovations such as the living notation. Really like the community aspect. But ultimately, recorded video content is not an effective substitute for real life lessons, training and mentorship. Open Studio could greatly enhance its offering if it, for example, generating a service where student could book lessons (over zoom) with top level teachers (for extra $ of course). Serious students won’t get very far without expert one to one feedback from world class players.

Thanks for the honest feedback, Ian. It sounds like you may be looking for the community-based coaching as part of Open Studio Pro (openstudiojazz.com/pro). It includes over 50 live coaching sessions with opportunities for feedback on your playing from one of our instructors. If that doesn't suit you, we do have monthly masterclasses where members like you can volunteer to be featured in the masterclass. Let us know if you are interested. It's included in your Piano Access Pass membership. The next one is Sept 16th at 1pm ET with Geoffrey Keezer. If interested, simply email us at support@openstudiojazz.com Best, Dan co-founder, Open Studio

Hello! I'm not good at english(I'm from eastern Europe) or writing, but I know that all of you guys are doing a great, great job with Open Studio. No matter the level of playing, I'm sure everyone finds his own pace with you, that's why I follow you. I tried with others too, but you keep my interess high.Thank you for that and I recommend you keep up the good work!

Hi.. it's been a week and I must say that I am very pleased. I have already learned a lot and my piano playing has improved. I am very glad of my choice of learning with you. The videos are great and very helpful. The parts are well written and a good way to practice and progress. Thank you... I wish I had known Open Studio before. Pierre

I'd like to revise my earlier review. Previously I was happy with everything except the ability to expand the screen to have a clear view of fingerings while still being able to start, stop, and rewind the lesson. The proffered explanation solved those issues. There was never any issue with the presentations and the concepts being taught. The programs I've used (piano) are all first rate!

Open studio is worth the 'price of admission' and really should cost more than it does. So thank you guys for keeping costs accessible. I don't know how you do that, but you haven't priced many of us out, for which I am grateful. Open Studio is the heart of what musicianship is about, a willingness to show others exactly how to get where you as masters in the craft are. And you don't oversell. Your site is the real deal for those who what to learn Jazz. Thanks for not underselling the reality that being good at the piano isn't an overnight process. Progress and mastery require dedication and work - while having fun.

I love the concepts being taught. I don't like the layout of the web instruction materials. I seek to watch exactly how the examples are played to include finger selection. There is no finger notation on the music and if I blow up the screen large enough to ascertain the preferred way to finger a particular phrase, the controls are off the screen making any attempts to pause, rewind and replay very difficult. You are on to a great idea in the presentation, but it needs to be refined.

Hi there Edmund, Thanks for the feedback. Fingering is something that we intentionally don't notate since there truly isn't a right or wrong way. As far as the full screen option, there is a square icon in the playbar that should expand the entire player to fill the screen, leaving the controls easily accessible. Happy practicing. Hi Jazzers, there is no better website than Open Studio. Great teachers. They let you discover that the spaces between the notes are important as well , even maybe more important! Don’t doubt, be a member. Thanks for all the material.🙏🏼

It is so good. I'm learning. Adam Maness's guided practice sessions are game-changing. I need a personal trainer for my music and he's exactly that.

I’m from Costa Rica, We don’t grow up listening to Jazz music or playing since High School days in a Big Band so.. I love this opportunity to get closer to this incredibly music, and mix it with our Latin sense and native background. Thanks a lot!
