I haven't managed to "get into" my purchase yet. I bought it because I needed a course on how to accompany a singer. Also I am a big fan of Adam and Peter and have learned a lot from their podcasts.

The prompt for this review came pretty soon after I started the trumpet course, so it's probably too early to tell, but I'm convinced that Sean Jones is a great trumpeter and effective teacher, based on the first handful of lessons. From what I can see, there are not a lot of tips and tricks or 80/20-style "shortcuts" or extended techniques, but even though I'm skeptical of those things I do like them in principle (basically for rapid improvement and creative possibilities). One thing I'd love is a lesson or two on how the mechanics of the trumpet can be exploited for jazz, like how certain scales (e.g., pentatonics) can be played almost entirely on one valve, or how alternate fingerings can help with tonguing fast phrases. And, to be wildly specific, how can I play like Wadada Leo Smith?! (Or Miles Davis, or Freddie Hubbard, or... Sean Jones?! What stylistic habits make individual trumpeters distinctive and special?)

Outstanding integration of scales, chords, improvisation, performance and presented to the student with the emphasis on what can be achieved with application and practice.

I’ve only just started learning with the Open Studio team, but I can wholeheartedly recommend them based upon my experience so far - the content is excellent, the delivery is excellent!

I've purchased three piano masterclasses. All of them were very insipiring and there is enough material for many years of study. 5 stars but there is a little cons regarding the transcriptions: I found out that there are many mistakes in them. Sometimes I would find myself watching the keyboard camera instead of the living notation. Some editing would be much appreciated.

Très utile pour travailler l’instrument et Mr deBOO est fantastique. Dommage qu’il n’y ait pas beaucoup de cours de Basse électrique !!!!

While I am a guitarist, I love Adam and Peter's videos. Enough that I purchased Peter Spraque's course. Working through that and loving it.

I'm an older guy, a self-taught former full-time pro musician, competent on guitar, flute and vocals but newer to the piano. As a singer, I've come to love jazz standards and have tried a lot of other courses to get going in that area, learned some good things, but when I found Open Studio I found just what I needed, taught logically and engagingly. Never felt so perfectly suited to an online class and have no doubts that I will stay busy for the duration with these guys and that I will improve steadily while staying enthused. Great content, highly recommended.

I'm simultaneously working my way through Jazz Piano Jump Start and Diane Reeves' Define Your Voice, while also binging on Diane's concerts (on YouTube). These courses are taught differently and each one is amazing. Diane brings us into her process. She is so articulate about her artistry. Peter Martin and Adam Maness give a lecture and then Adam guides students through practice sessions. In the first lesson, I learned about intervals and started ear training and playing by ear. I need both courses if I'm going to develop my vocal instrument and interpret a lyric. I couldn't be more pleased with these courses.

The check out was confusing. 1. A discount was not credited and 2. Somehow I paid for a Voice lesson I did not ask for and don’t play piano. I lost my trust for this company.

Hi there. Thanks for taking the time to provide a review. Sorry the checkout experience wasn't optimal for you. It does appear that the three packs were discounted for you. I've refunded your Voicings Pack for you completely, but you can still have access to it. It's about chord voicings that would apply to you as a pianist. It's not necessarily a vocal course. Let us know how we can make your experience at Open Studio any better. Shoot us an email at support@openstudiojazz.com Best, Dan Co-founder, Open Studio

Excellent videos, great teachers, vastly comprehensive-definitely 5 stars. As a semi-pro there’s lots to learn here.

I discovered Helio Alves. I am taking his piano course. It is helping me a lot in writing the piano/vocal book for my musical SPELL OF RIO.

I found Adam & Peters YouTube videos during the pandemic and open studio as a result. I love the quality and the way they approach teaching Jazz Piano. Certainly the combination of their free stuff (of which there's a lot) and the paid courses make the open studio Jazz tuition the best available online.
