“I've really enjoyed getting the mystery packets of new spice mixtures. Some are known to me already but many aren't and it's fun to try the suggested recipes that come with the spices and then to imagine other ways to use them. I'd recommend Piquant Post to anyone who loves to cook, especially out-of-the-ordinary dishes.”
“Thoroughly enjoyed the couple of recipes we have made so far! It's nice to have something to break us out of our routines, but without the time pressure of other subscription meal services that ship perishable ingredients. Looking forward to next month's country and theme!”
“My wife bought me the monthly package of four meals. You get four recipe cards and the spice to go with it. Each month is centered around a particular region—central South America, Polynesia, Scandinavia, Mexico, Northern Africa, etc…and contains four recipes and the spices to go with them.
You provide the foods yourself but most of the ingredients can be found in a standard grocery store. Because I live in a very small town (less than 5k) all we have is a Walmart and still I can usually find a lot of what I need.
Things I can’t find I have usually been able to buy (pomegranate molasses, for example) on Amazon. I definitely recommend finding the ingredients! They do give substitution suggestions for unusual ingredients but I love being exposed to new flavors and they’re always amazing. I’ve only run into two recipes that involved fresh ingredients I didn’t feel I could substitute well (and I’m on my third year of the program.)
I had considered myself a fairly accomplished home cook prior to my wife getting me this subscription, but it has opened up a whole new world of options for me.
Stews, curries, desserts, poke bowls, salmon sliders, Shish-kabobs, & grilled meats all spiced with wonderful new combinations I’d have never thought of.
They include a vegan option most months, which I appreciate on some level but if I were a vegan I don’t think I’d want to pay full price for one of four meals being vegan. I do appreciate it on some level—exposing me to how a vegan meal can be quite delicious. But you can also add meat to a vegan meal if you like.
The meals are generally quite healthy as they almost never involve over-processed foods and they’re not overly large in size usually, so the meals have kept me generally more healthy than I’ve eaten in the past.
Warning: not a good gift for someone who doesn’t like rice. Turns out most places in the world eat rice and these recipes reflect that fact. We love rice so it’s not an issue for us.
I love this product and have recommended it to many friends. I give it five stars.”
“I purchased Piquant Post as a gift for my son. Overall, he is enjoying trying new spices. However, he is disappointed with the vegetarian recipe offerings. Often the spices don't come with a vegetarian recipe suggestion, or the ones that are given are not well thought out.”
“I think the idea is great! I would like it more if the website had at least one super-simple (fast, low dishes) recipe for each spice. Most of the current recipes are very labor intensive.”
“Not happy with company. No tracking and no live contact with a human possible. Shipping software is available that automatically e-mails tracking to client.”
“Received a 6 month subscription as a gift last year and it was a perfect for me as I am a foodie, love exploring flavors, love cooking, love spices but have little time to be in the kitchen. This encouraged me to cook healthy meals while being exposed to new flavors. Recipes are not complicated, easy to follow and adjust if you don’t have a required vegetable or additional herb at hand. My family has loved every single recipe we have tried so far. We actually get excited when a new envelope comes in. I added a photo of the cards for all the recipes I did in 2022.”
“Piquant Post provides a great product and a fantastic subscription. I bought a one-year subscription for my dad who loves to cook but “has everything.”
Perfect fit! He loves receiving the packages each month and appreciates the recipes for inspiration.”
“I am OBSESSED with Piquant Post now! I grow so tired of attempting to figure out something new to make for lunch or dinner and have long wished for something new to spark some interest. I LOVE the concept of getting monthly worldly spices and recipes for myself and my family to try out. This is so unique and I’m definitely going to stick around. This is a must get for all those who enjoy cooking!”
“We appreciate how quickly you get the first packet out, but the email telling our friends what was coming and who it was from never made it to them. This happened when we were gifted last year with Piquant Post. The Post arrives, but with no explanation. Not sure what or why the delay in sending the email.
BTW the recipes and herb/spice mixes are terrific!!”
Hi Reah, thanks for the feedback.
We reviewed your recent gift order to see what happened. It appears that you entered 2 email addresses in the gift recipient email field separated by a semi-colon. This was treated as a single email by our software and so clearly was an invalid email address. So the message wasn't sent.
As a tiny company, we have custom built an email message application but cannot predict all bugs and edge cases. We fix ones as we encounter them (this is the first time we've seen someone enter 2 emails in the field). But we will notify our software support team to not allow users to enter 2 or even 1 invalid email in the gift message field. We appreciate you alerting us as that is how we improve.
“The recipients of the gift never received an email to let them know what, and who was sending the gift. Or that it will come once a month.
They received the first month delivery.
They haven’t tried it yet”
Hi Donna,
Thanks for your feedback. Sorry your gift recipient didn't see the gift message email from us. We reviewed our gift message software logs and confirmed the email was sent to your recipient on the date you selected.
It's possible your gift recipient missed it as the email provider can put the email into a folder not checked (promotions, junk, spam, etc). Please ask your recipient to search their email on Dec 8th for a message from us and I'm confident he will find it.
“Definitely a 5. Love the spices. Makes the whole house smell wonderful. We really enjoy reading about the other countries foods and spices. Top notch meal every time we use one of your spice packets. I even ordered packets for my adult kids to use. I received the spice club subscription for my birthday. Customer service is great also”
Hi Kelli,
Happy to assist. We reviewed your order to see if there was any errors. I see we mailed your gift order on Dec 9th as specified at the time of purchase. The gift should have arrived awhile ago.
However, we see you didn't enter a gift message or gift recipient email at the time of purchase. (it appears you deleted the gift message out of the cart)
As posted on our site, the gift message email is the only notification of your gift to the recipient. So, your recipient likely doesn't know you sent the gift as there is no printed notice in the first shipment. We recommend you contact your gift recipient to let them know you sent this gift.
We're working to improve our gift email system to not allow you to make a gift purchase without entering in a valid recipient email.
“I am happy so far.
I just wish the samples were a little bigger to fully enjoy as they are not enough to make a full meal with so it lacks the flavor because of that.
But if you are taste testing to buy new spices this would be good
Since this is a subscription I would like a larger size sample”
