“I, my wife and our 2 kids visited Primark at Hull today 21st July 2024. We have been Primark customers for two years plus.
While we were shopping, I waited for my wife to go test a cloth at the testing room. My wife came out unhappy with one of the Primark staff behind her asking her to leave the shop that she is being thrown out.
I asked my wife what happened and she said she entered a testing room to check her cloth, she was still inside trying to dress up when a lady told her to leave the room that the room was not up for testing.
She apologized and told them she is trying to put on her trousers, but they kept shouting at her to get out the testing room (She couldn’t have come out Naked right?) by the time she was done, they called the manager on her and 2 security operatives.
Still, my wife apologized to the manager that she was sorry and didn’t know the room was bared from customers today. But the manager asked her to leave the shop without listening to her.
When the manager came to me, I simply asked him “What happened”? He behaved like he didn’t want to listen to me, so i introduced myself to him that I am the husband to the woman she is talking to, that he should tell me what’s happening so we can de escalate the situation as a lot of customers attention have been attracted and everyone is looking.
Guess what? he didn’t want to talk or listen he asked me to also get out of the shop also. I was shocked. I tried to pickup the clothes I bought for my son for his birthday but he refused me to take them. I told him I have been here for over an hour and half, selecting clothes for my son and that I needed them, but he asked me to leave without the clothes.
At this point people were gathered looking at us, my family and I felt so embarrassed. I took my son, the clothes, and went down the escalator. While my wife was carrying our 1 year old baby. The fat guy kept shouting at my wife to leave, and talking to his colleague via the microphone that he is throwing us out.
My wife already told him she was leaving but he followed my wife right behind her, so close that he could push my wife and baby to fall from the escalator. Immediately I noticed this, and the looming danger, I warned him to give a distance as my wife has a baby with her, his closeness is risky, that if this woman happens to fall the escalator with the one year child, I would sue him and Primark for that, when I brought out my phone to start recording, that was when he shifted one step back.
At this point, every shopper at Primark was already looking. Because this fat guy kept shouting at my wife to leave. He also took the clothes bag I bought for my son to return back to the shop even though I pleaded with him to leave the clothes for me to pay for.
I couldn’t have imagined a manager of a shop behave the way he did. One of the qualities of a leader is to de escalate conflict and maintain peace and order. But this guy caused us embarrassment physically and emotionally which attracted many onlookers.
I expected him as a manager to calm down, or even tell me what was going on when I asked him, but he didn’t accord me that respect. He was more interested in throwing us out (Family of 4)
We were embarrassed like thiefs. I’m sure people may think we were shop lifters. I feel so tearful as I write this message, and I implore Primark management to look at the footage of what happened today and judge for themselves.
One other manager came on later to apologize and brought back the clothes which we paid for (£73.50)
Now, I regret ever buying from Primark and any of their affiliations. Maybe we were treated like this because we are blacks.
This incident happened today 21st July, 2024 at around 14:28pm at Primark Hull City Centre.
The said manager guy is around 5.28ft, fat, on a black Jean and Black T.shirt with an eye glasses.”
“Reasonable prices and a lot of variety. Got to be careful though because as everyone shops here they end up looking the same because nothing is unique ????. I've had some experiences where clothes haven't been the best quality but I still like to have a browse and always end up picking up more than intended. There's a nice range of products which look more expensive than they are which is great. Like to come in here for summer clothes and every now and again you find a gem that you just have to pick up. Would still recommend this shop. Nothing really puts me off it because it's cheap and cheerful.”
