Overall: The property was lovely. The furnishings were beautiful, the views spectacular, and the pool area was gorgeous. Overall, a beautiful villa with stunning views. Enjoyed Most: The view was spectacular, and the unit was so interesting with the combination of natural stone, tile, and nice furnishings. Enjoyed Least: The location is a bit far from the towns we wanted to visit, especially with driving such a challenge. Parking at the unit was also difficult. Not a true shower in the master, and the shower in the guest bath was tiny with no place to put shampoo, razor, etc. Parking was a challenge at the unit, and driving in the area is stressful. Surrounding Area: Many excellent restaurants. The dining experiences were great. Nearby Events or Locales: Furore. No, it was not within walking distance. Having a car was a necessity. Tips or Restaurants: Excellent restaurants are Bacco, Ripa Della Janare,Agroturismo Sarafina, Fico L'India, L'Incanto. Directions: We were given directions to a bar to meet the property manager. We experienced a problem when we arrived. Our phones were not working, and we could not find a WiFi hotspot. A kind woman in the mini-mart made a phone call for us. Check In Out: I think the meeting point should be the villa, not a bar which is often closed. Need a backup plan for foreign tourists who may experience difficulty with phones or WiFi.

Overall: This property was substituted at the last minute due to a problem with our original reservation. It was very clean and comfortable! Enjoyed Most: The view was terrific from the living room window and from the terrace of the master bedroom. Very easy walk to town and great restaurants. The bus stop was right across the street and made traveling very easy. Easy walk to catch the ferries to the Cinque Terre. Enjoyed Least: Winding staircase was difficult for my sister to navigate to get to her bedroom. I had originally booked a one level apartment due to her disability. Towels were a bit worn and need to be replaced. Surrounding Area: Beautiful view of the sea. Small seating area in front of the property with succulents and a lemon tree enclosing the small patio made you forget you were right on the main road. Property was quiet even though it was on the main road. Nearby Events or Locales: Portovenere was right there and it was very easy to walk on level sidewalks. Check In Out: Check in was a bit hectic as we missed the train stop, traveled further north and then had difficulty getting a train back in time. The property manager was very patient, met us when we finally arrived and had good information as to the area, restaurants and taking the bus to other areas to tour.

Overall: The property was beautiful and even better than we expected from the pictures. We absolutely loved it and hope to go back. Enjoyed Most: The location. Near the beach, near groceries, near bars and restaurants, near a fabulous city. Surrounding Area: I loved being walking distance to the beach. The water and sand were gorgeous. Rethymno was also an amazing city with a gorgeous harbour. Nearby Events or Locales: Rethymno and yes. Tips or Restaurants: All the restaurants we went to were great with really friendly service. Directions: We took a taxi to the hotel nearby, worked perfectly.

Overall: Very good. Enjoyed Most: The location and the view were excellent, as well as the outside areas. Enjoyed Least: The pool might have been tended to before arrival. Also, in mid September the sun did not reach the pool so the water was cold. The children (vikings) had some fun there, but the pool was in fact of no use. Surrounding Area: Everything. Fantastic landscape to enjoy from the terraces and walks. And we enjoyed the village with a good selection of amenities for such a small village. Everything we needed was within a minute's walk. Bakery, butcher, tiny supermarket, and last but least- Marco's caf? cum delicatessen. Nearby Events or Locales: No town in walking distance, but that was no worry to us as everything was available in Donnini village. Also we had rented cars and got around for sightseeing. Tips or Restaurants: Guests should be informed that the pool is quite cold in mid-September. Local Donnini restaurant serves great pizzas. Directions: We drove from Pisa, using a GPS. Think we would have had some trouble towards the end of the journey without it. Sorry, but not able to give specific recommendations. Apart from stick to autostrada as long as possible. Check In Out: We had a list of three contact persons. The two first priorities never answered. But number three, Marco, the bar owner, turned out to be our man. So very friendly and helpful in every way! So check in and out was perfect.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay at Villa Rosa very much. The view is so beautiful and peaceful! We made good use of the porch to drink in the view while we were drinking wine! The bedrooms were spacious. The beds were very comfortable. It was great to have your own bathroom. We found it easy to get to other Tuscan towns for day trips. It was convenient to the train for a day trip to Florence. Enjoyed Most: The view was amazing. Also, we so appreciated the quiet! Enjoyed Least: Lighting in some of the bathrooms could have been better. Surrounding Area: We liked being able to walk through the vineyards. It was also very convenient to Montepulciano. Nearby Events or Locales: Sant'Albino was the nearest town. We did not walk in but drove in several times for groceries and dining. Tips or Restaurants: It would be helpful to toss in some garbage bags. We ended up buying some because we soon ran out. We also brought along coffee, wet wipes, some laundry detergent and dishwasher tabs.We went into Sant'Albino to grocery shop. We ate at Tre Stelle which was a fun local family type of place. We also ate at La Casina which was more upscale and very good.We enjoyed dining at Osteria dell'Aquacheta in Montepulciano for a unique dining experience, great steaks, and chatting with other patrons. Osteria del Conte was also very good! Directions: The directions to Montepulciano were good but they became confusing. We did not know when to count the turns in the road, before Montepulciano or after. The GPS would have gotten us there but we called Silvia to confirm and she had us pull over and came to get us. Check In Out: Check in and out were very smooth. No problems.

Overall: Our stay at the villa was a fantastic week for our group of 18 adults. Enjoyed Most: It was large enough for our group to dine and socialize together and at the same time to have a bit of quiet time out. The kitchen and dining area was well equipped to host a dinner party for 20 people. The pool area was fantastic and qw loved to spend the day here on our 'rest days'. Towels for the pool were also available which was great. We also loved the history behind the villa. It was once owned by a mayor of Lucca. Enjoyed Least: Some of the showers were very small and the villa was not close enough to walk to town. The washing machine took a very long time to do a full cycle. With 18 people in the villa we had a lot of washing. Surrounding Area: While we couldn't walk to town we did love that it was in the countryside and the view was spectacular. I loved that you could hear the bells ringing from a nearby church. The grounds of the villa were also very well maintained. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Lucca and unfortunately unable to walk to town due to the narrow roads and no footpaths. The traffic was also quite heavy. However, there was a small shop a short walkable distance away for milk and bread. Tips or Restaurants: You definitely need some sort of transport to stay in this villa. We took taxis from the train station to a supermarket and then they came back and picked us up and then delivered us to the villa. This was only possible because we had a contact in Lucca and they arranged this with the taxis. We also hired buses for some day trips again arranged by our contact in Lucca. Other days we used taxis to go into town. Directions: As previously stated your own transport would be ideal. Luckily we had a taxi driver that could speak English and he was very helpful. He also gave us his card so then we were able to contact him when we needed a taxi into town. At 20 Euros it was quite expensive for a 4 km trip but this was usually shared between 2 couples. This also probably worked out cheaper than hiring several vehicles for the week. Check In Out: The check in process was a little challenging as neither the key holder nor caretakers speak English.

Overall: We had a very enjoyable time. Villa Adelina is a charming rustic farmhouse in a lovely quiet location, about a fifteen minute drive from Castellina in Chianti. Our stay was from September 13 - 20, 2014, so we did not use the pool. Even though there are no screens on the windows, bugs were never a problem. Enjoyed Most: The beautiful peaceful setting. The rustic charm of the building. The large kitchen. The proximity to Castellina in Chianti. The house was clean and the grounds were well-maintained. Plus, there's plenty of space for anyone who wants to find time to be alone. The free wi-fi was a bonus and it worked well! Enjoyed Least: The driveway is in poor condition. You need a vehicle with high clearance to negotiate it, so it deterred us from going out in the evenings. The villa has rooms we never used--like the study. It would have suited us better to have a larger living room, but we solved the problem by moving one of the couches from the study to the living room. The bathroom towels are thin, the kitchen lighting is poor, and there are no sharp knives. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014 Surrounding Area: Castello Brolio, the wine festival in Greve. The towns of Greve, Panzano, Radda, Volpaia and Vertine. Volterra and San Gimignano can be done in a day trip. (It's best to go to San Gimignano first thing in the morning.) We also visited Lucca (1 12 hours away). An interesting town, though their market was a disappointment. Siena was an easy day trip. Nearby Events or Locales: Castellina in Chianti is about a fifteen-minute drive. It's a great little town to explore, plus it has a "COOP" supermarket and fabulous butcher shop. There's nothing within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The towels are thin, but if you won't be using the pool, use the pool towels as bathroom towels. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014.The kitchen was stocked with dishwasher and liquid detergent, sponges, coffee filters and paper towels. There was plenty of toilet paper, but you'll need to bring (or buy) any spices you plan to use, including salt and pepper. There were no sharp knives in the kitchen. You'll also need your own shampoo, body soap, etc. We had a lovely meal at Cantina Squarcialupi in Castellina. We also had Dora cook for us. The price was very reasonable, but it would have been more fun if we could have communicated with her. (She does not speak English.) Editor's Note: Toilet paper, bath soap, dishwasher and washing machine detergents, paper towels, and garbage bags are provided. New, high quality bath towels were also installed in October, 2014. Directions: The directions to the property were fine. Check In Out: Check in check out was a breeze. A staff member led us to the villa.

Overall: Our experience was fantastic. The owners could not have been nicer and more helpful. The property was well-maintained and the pictures on the website did not do the property justice. I would definitely stay there again. Enjoyed Most: The beautiful setting and how well-kept the property is. We loved the gorgeous view and the comfortable furnishings. Everything was fantastic. Enjoyed Least: It was tough to get up the hill to the property and back down again. After a few times it was easier. Surrounding Area: Cortona was a neat little hill town and it was easy to get to many of the other Tuscan hill towns. Nearby Events or Locales: Cortona. It would have been a tough walk bc of the hills. Tips or Restaurants: We ate at several of Rick Steves' recommended restaurants in Cortona and they were all very good. Directions: The property owners met us at the little market a mile or so away from the house and that helped. More signs would certainly be needed if you were doing it alone for the first time.

Overall: Excellent. A lovely property in a tranquil setting. Enjoyed Most: Great shared space and pool area. Enjoyed Least: Poor kitchen facilities for a large group. Nearby Events or Locales: Marina di Ragusa. No, it is 12 km away. Tips or Restaurants: Keep in mind that it is isolated with no other facilities within walking distance.

Overall: We had a wonderful time at the villa. The view of Lake Como was beautiful. The owner was very accommodating. She arranged a chef for 2 nights and helped us order food delivered from a deli. Enjoyed Most: The view of the lake. We especially liked the bathroom with every bedroom. Everyone had privacy when they needed it. We were 15 people and everyone had their own space. Enjoyed Least: The information given on the 10 minute walk to the city should be changed to 20 t0 30 minute walk. Surrounding Area: There isn't much in the surrounding area as it is a neighborhood and marina. We really liked going to the dock and taking the ferries to the various cities around the lake. Really a beautiful lake. We booked several day trips. St Moritz, Como, Lake Lugano. Nearby Events or Locales: 20 to30 minute walk to the grocery and bakery. Menaggio was the nearest town. A car would have been convenient for grocery and bakery shopping. We had taxi service. Tips or Restaurants: The villa is well equipped. Directions: We had limo service from Icare Limo. They were very good. I would recommend them. Check In Out: The owner picked us up at the Hotel Menaggio and drove us and our luggage to the villa. We were the first four to arrive. The others came by limo.S he checked us in and came to say goodbye when we departed.

Overall: Wonderful, peaceful, with a true Tuscan experience. The hosts/owners were very responsive to any requests and on top of everything. The absolute large size of the villa ensured many small nooks for all to have solitude, if needed. Excellent experience. Enjoyed Most: The size, location, views, interior courtyard and pool area. Enjoyed Least: The kitchen was basic but worked. Surrounding Area: The many small historic towns were great to explore. Nearby Events or Locales: Nothing was within walking distance. A car is mandatory, but not a problem. Directions: Dropped pinnear Castellina in Chianti, Siena. We used the coordinates for the owner's home, which is right beside the villa. Some in our group were unable to input the property coordinates provided on the voucher.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay. Claudia is an excellent host and very knowledgeable about the area. Loved the cooking class and met some very nice people who were also staying there. Fabulous atmosphere. Tuscany could easily have been "the Garden of Eden". Enjoyed Most: The atmosphere was so peaceful. And quiet. A great place to relax and enjoy the good life. Surrounding Area: The natural beauty and the history of the area. Also, shopping is great if you are into that. Nearby Events or Locales: Staggia, and no it is not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Villa is very well furnished. Would suggest bring a few days worth of food to start. Two great restaurants in Monteriggioni, about 15 minutes away by car. Check In Out: These processes were a clean and easy as could be.

Overall: We had a really pleasant break - Sole 2 was so comfortable and peaceful - and had excellent outdoor flow with outside dining facilities and a great uncrowded swimming pool. The surroundings were so lovely. Enjoyed Most: Probably the bedrooms and outdoor dining table - and also the outstanding views and lovely countryside! Enjoyed Least: Possibly the driveway entrance which is sometimes a little difficult to negotiate as it opens onto a narrow road and a blind bend fairly close by. Surrounding Area: Lovely little villages and beautiful outlook onto surrounding valleys and hilltops. There are nearby vineyards and lovely quaint architectural church and castle structures. Nearby Events or Locales: Barberino Val D'Elsa was nearest but probably outside our walking distance. Tavarnelle Val di Pesa was the nearest town with a good supermarket but that was further off still. Tips or Restaurants: Future renters don't need to bring a thing - although its probably important to have a car to get around. Just to say Florence is very easy to get to by car - especially the Piazzale Michelangelo where the parking is free, the centre of Florence is near by, and the view over the city is spectacular! Directions: We used Google maps on the iPhone - it was all we needed! Check In Out: We felt our check-in/check-out host was really good efficient, friendly but not intrusive. He was happy to accommodate last minute changes on our checkout time - was very good.

Overall: This was an amazing villa dating back to the 1200s. It is beautifully maintained, offers a great central meeting space and living area, and large, private bedroom and bathrooms. The grounds and views are stunningly beautiful. We ended our days outside, watching the sunset and drinking wonderful Italian wines. Heaven! Enjoyed Most: Its history, the views, the fabulous gardens, and the comfort. It truly felt like a home away from home. Enjoyed Least: The parking access, but that's Cortona! And no WiFi. But everything else was perfect. Surrounding Area: We loved being able to walk down the hill into Cortona ... and since it was a very steep hill, we certainly got our exercise. There were a number of restaurants and wine shops available. The retail shops were also great. We loved watching the children play soccer in the piazza, all the people walking with their dogs, and the atmosphere in general. We walked through the town, sightseeing, visiting the churches and the Duomo, and also walked the "flat street," visiting the parks frequented by the natives. It also served as a good central location for trips to Orvieto, Florence, Siena, Banfi, and a number of other small towns we visited. Nearby Events or Locales: Our villa was located on the top of the hill in Cortona. Tips or Restaurants: We rented a WiFi enhancer so we could access email and the internet.GREAT FINDS Stop at Molesini's Enoteca Wineshop and do a wine tasting with Marco. Fabulous! They make it very easy to purchase and ship wine home.We had dinner our first night in Cortona at Locanda al Pozzo Antico Ristorante, which was outstanding. We sat in a courtyard area that was beautifully lit. The steak was wonderful, as was the veal.We had a lunch experience on Sunday at Trattoria Dardano. Paolo Castelli, the owner, makes everyone feel welcome. Many of the people at lunch spoke only Italian. They are regulars who come every Sunday after church. It was lively, we shared wine with the locals, and the food was extraordinary. But the highlight of our trip was when we had the Personal Chef of Cortona come to our villa to cook dinner for my husband's 60th birthday. We booked it through RentVillas. The appetizers included zucchini soup with parmesan crisps, caprese salad, and bruschetta. The gnocchi in duck sauce was wonderful. And their own version of tiramusu was delicious. The main course, veal, was also wonderfully seasoned. Directions: We were met by the owner and taken to the villa. So obviously there was nothing you could do to improve that experience! Check In Out: The process was very easy and everyone was warm and welcoming.

Overall: It was the most wonderful place. So very near Firenze and yet in the quiet and lovely countryside. The administrator was very helpful and charming. We enjoy every moment. Enjoyed Most: The peaceful atmosphere, the view, the kindness of the manager. The perfect location. Surrounding Area: The wonderful view since the property is at the top of a hill and you can see the surrounding countryside. One night we could see a couple of deer crossing the property. Nearby Events or Locales: Yes, the nearest small town is Grassina, which is walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The property is so well located that you can dine in Florence and be at your villa in 7 minutes drive. We rented a car so it was very easy to come and go everywhere. Directions: We certainly used a GPS. I cannot think of anything more useful. We highly recommend it. Check In Out: Everything went very smoothly, much easier than expected. The people at the billas were just super warm and kind. We spent a GREAT vacation. Very recommendable.

Overall: Very lovely. Enjoyed Most: Elevator, great location for church and other museums. Enjoyed Least: No view. My bedroom window was very small and looked onto pipes. Surrounding Area: Close to food shopping and outdoor areas to eat. Nearby Events or Locales: In center of city, so we did take a bus. We went to Fiesole to see the Roman ruins. Tips or Restaurants: The manager provided some names of good places to eat. I enjoyed going to the market and buying fresh food and was able to dine at home as kitchen has a good supply of dishes etc. Directions: No GPS; just used our map. Check In Out: Be prepared to have additional costs if you use air conditioning; it will be deducted from you deposit.

Overall: Very good. The kitchen was well stocked, the check in and check out process was easy, the bathrooms had sufficient towels, the air conditioner worked very well. The view is amazing, although the steps take some getting used to, but were much easier by day 3. Enjoyed Most: The view and the outside area. Enjoyed Least: The noise from the upstairs neighbors. I'm not sure if there was some construction going on but on a few afternoons there was loud music playing. Surrounding Area: The view, access to the ocean to swim and relax. Being in the middle of the Amalfi coast was ideal because we were halfway between Positano and Amalfi so we could enjoy everything the area had to offer, including the Path of the Gods. Nearby Events or Locales: Praiano is a very nice town with several very good restaurants, several mini-markets that have what you need to cook fine meals, and the SITA bus stop is directly up the stairs from the villa. Directions: Everything was sufficient in this regard.

Overall: We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this villa. We made good use of the swimming pool, the outdoor bbq, and the kitchen. Enjoyed Most: This villa is a charming mix of comfort and character, with a beautiful view, lovely swimming pool and close proximity to a quaint and welcoming village. The owners were very warm and helpful. The villa had a number of stunning hand painted icons on the walls. Enjoyed Least: Not much, really. Maybe the fact that the hot water was somewhat limited for the seven of us. Surrounding Area: Warm, lovely people in the nearby village who served us with welcoming smiles and delicious food at The Gorge restaurant! Nearby Events or Locales: We were within 5 mins walk of Deliana. Tips or Restaurants: Pool toys if you are traveling with children. "The Gorge" in Deliana. Directions: Directions were fine for us. We used a GPS but were traveling with a young couple who have a keen sense of direction. Check In Out: Most accommodating to our "outside of the specified hours" needs.

Overall: We had a wonderful experience at Villa Montopoli. We were late in arriving due to heavy traffic en route from France and the owners were incredibly flexible and even offered to buy us groceries and leave them in the refrigerator. The property was amazing, very large, and looks better in real life than illustrated on the website. The pool is first class. Enjoyed Most: The pool and the physical layout with a lot of space to sprawl out. Enjoyed Least: Very minor thing to mention, but the long driveway and the gate. However, this is incredibly minor. Prior visitors commented about the cats, but we saw only one and he never bothered us at all. Surrounding Area: The proximity to Pisa, Firenze, Siena and San Gimignano (take the train from San Romano 5 minutes away....much easier than driving and parking). The town of Montopoli was very charming and quiet. Nearby Events or Locales: You could walk to Montopoli theoretically. However, it would probably take 30-40 minutes and is mostly up hill. Tips or Restaurants: The house is incredibly well stocked so you don't need to bring anything extra. Definitely hire a chef through RentVillas. Cinzia was wonderful and the food was truly excellent. Directions: The property would be hard to find with only a GPS. The extra written directions (take a right at the cross and a left at the church!) were vitally important. Check In Out: Check in and check out was about as informal a process as is possible. They greeted us, grabbed copies of our passports and didn't even ask for the security deposit.
