Overall: Excellent. Beautiful house and property. Enjoyed Most: Comfortable, beautiful setting. Enjoyed Least: Spotty internet connection--had to go outside to get reception. Surrounding Area: Wine country. Nearby Events or Locales: Barberino. No, the town was about 5 miles from villa. Check In Out: Sophia was very accommodating.

Overall: Fantastic villa tucked in the side of a mountain. Quiet and cozy spaces inside and out. Kitchen is long and narrow, but has plenty of counter space to prepare meals. Narrow passage-way of a road to the site. Caretaker Bruno was very accommodating, even with a lack of English. Enjoyed trying to use our limited Spanish to communicate in Italian!! Enjoyed Most: Outside area was wonderful to sit poolside (even in the middle of October). Many loungers and tables to socialize. An unexpected bonus was the cleaning staff that arrived three times within the week. Tidying up and sweeping the tile floors was very much appreciated. Another little something extra that made for a relaxing stay. Enjoyed Least: No clothes dryer, but washers worked well (if slowly). Tough drying clothes when rain and mist was mostly a daily occurrence. Surrounding Area: Nice areas to walk and hike. Road down to Nocchi was steep, but doable. Nice little pizzeria in Nocchi with outstanding customer service and many "extras"- antipasto, bread, limoncello. Nearby Events or Locales: Nocchi was a short, steep walk away. Made the trek 3-4 times in our week at the villa. Tips or Restaurants: Be prepared for the narrow, steep and rough roads. All the little cafes in Camaiore were excellent and very authentic. Friends arranged the personal chef and crew and it was a wonderful way to embrace the Italian culinary scene. Very knowledgeable and fun ladies (3) came all the way from near Florence and found their way to Villa Nocchi in the dark. They put on a six(6) course show- with a part of Giada and a part of Lidia, complete with four bottles of wine and limoncello to top the night off right! Directions: Followed the directions to a T! Great use of local landmarks to assure the travelers that they are on the correct path. Not easy to find, but what an adventure around every corner. Relax and take you time. Check In Out: Bruno was right on time to greet us when we arrived. (He lives just behind the villa in a cluster of three structures.)Very easy getting our full deposit back.

Overall: It was fabulous and Villa Menaggio exceeded our expectations Enjoyed Most: The space , the view, the cleanliness. Enjoyed Least: No English speaking TV except BBC news. Even the DVD player didn't work with our DVDs. Wifi was good, though. Surrounding Area: The beauty and the transportation system, ferries, buses. Shops, restaurants. Everything. We fell in love with Menaggio. Nearby Events or Locales: Menaggio. It was within walking distance but not for someone who is not fit and used to walking about a mile each way (a scenic one!) Directions: No. We did not rent a car. Check In Out: It was perfect in every way.

Overall: The villa was beautiful as was the view. It was also very quiet and romantic. Enjoyed Most: It was great having our own kitchen and washing machine. We also liked the way it was decorated and the location of the property in relation to the town of Positano. Enjoyed Least: Lack of screens. The water pressure in the shower. Also getting to the street from the villa was 75 steps up. Surrounding Area: The view, the people, the restaurants were great. Nearby Events or Locales: Positano. Yes downtown Positano, beaches, restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: If you're staying for a week to two weeks you need to purchase or bring soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, laundry detergent. etc. If you plan to cook bring spices. All the restaurants we went to were excellent. All within walking distance from our villa. Directions: Very hard to park in Positano so we did not rent a car. We either hired a driver or took the local buses.

Overall: Very nice. Enjoyed Most: Cute inside. Enjoyed Least: Far away from the mainstream. Surrounding Area: Cute neighborhood. Tips or Restaurants: I would have loved more pillows. Directions: Taxis had a hard time finding the apt. Check In Out: We had to wait a while to get in - on the street...

Overall: We had a good vacation with our friends. Enjoyed Most: Good size for a large group. There were 8 of us and we had plenty of room for meals together, and space to spend quiet time if needed. Enjoyed Least: Difficult to find. The location was fine, but after a heavy rain the drive was rough and needed repair. We did not receive clear instructions for operating the appliances. Surrounding Area: Easy to get to other cities and sights from this location. Nearby Events or Locales: St. Remy was within walking distance along a small canal path. Otherwise, it was a fairly long walk if going by the local roads. Tips or Restaurants: There are several good restaurants in the area, though I would suggest making reservations if going for dinner. We really enjoyed dinner at L'Industrie. Directions: One of our group was able to find it using GPS. We tried to follow the directions on the information sheet and got hopelessly lost. We got more directions at the Tourist Information office that were clearer than the written ones we had. Check In Out: When some of our party arrived (in the middle of a downpour) they called the number for the manager, who only spoke French. She arrived with keys and tried to convey information, but was unable to communicate use of appliances. Check-out time was listed as 10:00 AM, but no one arrived until quite a bit later. We had made train reservations based on the time we'd been quoted, so were afraid we'd have to leave without any sort of check-out procedure. A definitive time would have helped.

Overall: Very good. Enjoyed Most: Peace and quiet, and the views. Gianmario was excellent, very helpful and considerate, and came in minutes when we had a problem locking the doors. Enjoyed Least: Road to the property, door locks!Kitchen was poorly equipped, lacked counter space, too few dishes - good dishwasher, though! Surrounding Area: We loved all the towns around the property, and once used to the driving, loved being close to Montepulciano, Pienza, Monalcino, Cortona and even found Volterra and Gimignano within reach--as well as Firenze and Siena.Sinalunga had good shopping. Nearby Events or Locales: Montichiello. Not walkable - 5kms, up and down hills, narrow roads. Tips or Restaurants: La Porta in Montichiello was excellent - we were there 4 times in 2 weeks - 3 for dinner. Need reservations. Bring a good map to help your GPS! Extra toilet paper, paper towels, and a computer to watch movies on, since there is no TV except news. Wifi is OK but slow. 3 - 4 hours to download a movie. Directions: We had a Garmin, and purchased a map of Italy/Greece (at Rick Steves recommendation). Would not recommend using it inside Florence to find parking - it is hopeless. We parked at a shopping centre (Coop-Wi) for free and caught tram (T1) right there for 1 euro and a 15 minute ride to the train station. Check In Out: Only finding the property after flying all night and driving 2 hours from Rome. By the way, advise everyone to be at LDV airport at least 3 hours before if returning a car, and if you have lots of luggage, be prepared to load it on buses and carts more than once. Italian efficiency is truly an oxymoron at this place!

Overall: We were a group of 11 and enjoyed our breakfast and before dinner cocktails on the terrace. Enjoyed Most: The location was perfect. Enjoyed Least: The stairs were challenging but we got the hang of it and were in better shape by the end of the week! Surrounding Area: Many restaurants and shops easily accessible. Nearby Events or Locales: Positano and yes, we walked down to the center many times. Directions: We had a driver so we had no problem Check In Out: Definitely enlist the aid of a porter to help with the luggage checking in and out because of the stairs.

Overall: Fabulous views provided us a terrific week in Moltrasio. Enjoyed Most: The setting was wonderful, the kitchen was well-equipped, check in and out was very easy. Surrounding Area: We felt as though we were enjoying the area as natives and not tourists. Very authentic location -- not touristy. Nearby Events or Locales: Walking to center of Moltrasio may be too far for most. Tips or Restaurants: Future renters must be aware of the amount of stairs to maneuver to get to property and inside property. Best restaurant was La Baia -- very easy to walk to and GREAT food. Directions: Directions and pictures were very helpful.

Overall: Very pretty location. Very nice set up with bathrooms for almost every bedroom. Enjoyed Most: The large rooms, large dining room table with plenty of space for large groups to gather in. Bedrooms very nice size, bathrooms nice. Enjoyed Least: Lack of appliance plugs in kitchen. Unreliable WiFi. Location more remote than expected. Surrounding Area: Closeness to Santa Brigida, very nice people there who were very helpful. The wonderful pizza place in Santa Brigida. Also the restaurants in and around the area. The winery close by to visit and tour. Great wines. Nearby Events or Locales: Santa Brigida was closest. Several of us walked there daily and it felt very convenient. Tips or Restaurants: Rent small cars. We requested 4 passenger vans and got 8 passenger vans which were rough to drive on narrow roads. Lots of restaurants all around. Directions: Directions are great but no one should visit the area without a GPS. We had one for all three vans. Check In Out: Went very well.

Overall: Terrific! Everything worked, the villa was comfortable and very clean, and it was wonderful to be out in the countryside and simultaneously next to a substantially charming tiny village. Enjoyed Most: (1) The care, guidance and knowledge provided by the housekeeper, who also cooked us a first-class meal one night (2) being able to walk to and from the extraordinarily delightful Osteria Volpaia for dinner. Enjoyed Least: Well, it's a trivial thing, but the pool house blocked the view from the living room and outdoor dining table. The pool area itself was fine. Surrounding Area: Radda is convenient, with a nice range of stores. It and a number of other nearby older towns are scenic, pleasant and historic. Everyone we met was friendly. Nearby Events or Locales: As mentioned, Volpaia is very close. Groceries and other supplies are a short drive away, in Radda. Tips or Restaurants: In Panzano, near the top of the hill at the end of town, Cantinetta Sassolini is a relatively new restaurant with marvelous fresh versions of regional cuisine. Casual and welcoming. Directions: Directions were perfect.

Overall: Good. Great spot. Enjoyed Most: Uniqueness, history, view, close proximity to Girona. The chef was outstanding. Enjoyed Least: There is a chained dog that barks next door. The owner reported that the city has been petitioned to do something about the situation. Surrounding Area: The area around Girona is extraordinary for cycling. Nearby Events or Locales: Easy walk into Celra to the market, baker. Celra is not the most attractive town. Getting into Girona was much better. Tips or Restaurants: Nothing specific, the area is full of great restaurants. Directions: It is an odd location and doesn't appear on all GPS systems ...ours took us the wrong way.... perhaps a map would be helpful. Check In Out: Check in and check out were fine.

Overall: This was a wonderful place to stay with family and friends. Close to everything we wanted to do, yet far enough away to enjoy the spectacular view and the quiet. Enjoyed Most: The view was breathtaking. Enjoyed Least: We pretty much enjoyed all of it! Surrounding Area: Really enjoyed the little towns. The owner of the property gave us directions to all the local eating places! Nearby Events or Locales: Can't remember the name, but it was not in walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Just ask the owners. They were more than happy to answer all of our questions. Directions: We used a GPS so had no problem locating the property. The owners were waiting for us when we arrived.

Overall: Lovely place on the mountainside. The view was amazing and the villa was very comfortable. It was a perfect location for all our side trips to hill towns. We traveled to Florence twice on the train. The Conad grocery was well stocked and even carried many GF foods. Enjoyed Most: It was secluded. It was rebuilt from the stones left there from years ago. The inside had modern bathrooms and kitchen. The king beds were comfortable.Beautiful views of the valley. We were surrounded by olive trees. The large rosemary plant in front of the villa was a bonus. Enjoyed Least: The living room was tiny even for the four of us. Need more seating. The upstairs bath only had a hand shower in the tub. Surrounding Area: The roosters in the morning, the view of the Under the Tuscan Sun movie house and the beautiful palace above us. (which is now an art school. ) We were within an hour of several hill towns. The train was close by in Camucia. People are friendly and the food and wines are fabulous Nearby Events or Locales: We were in Cortona. It was a 30 minute walk uphill. We walked into town twice. Many restaurants, churches and shops. Tips or Restaurants: The restaurants in Cortona were all good. You need reservations on the weekend. We usually had lunch in another hill town and either had dinner in Cortona or prepared dinner in the villa. The first couple of days when it was warmer we ate outside. There is a washing machine so you don't need to bring as many clothes.Wear comfortable walking shoes for the hills and steps everywhere. Directions: Someone met us in Camucia and lead us to the villa. This villa is off the beaten path down a walled road in the countryside. Our GPS helped us after that. I would advise getting a GPS for Italy before you go or rent a car with one. Check In Out: It was easy. Sauro was the owner. He knew we were seasoned travelers and left us alone.

Overall: We had a great time. Vanessa was marvelous and always very sweet and helpful. We felt very cozy in our unit. It was located centrally to most of Tuscany, and Umbria and it was easy for us to do day trips from there to some wonderful places, as well as Cortona. Enjoyed Most: The location was great and cozy and warm. Like being home. The grounds and swimming pool were beautiful, the place was clean and well maintained. Thanks for instantly replacing the coffee maker. The view of Cortona out of the back windows was terrific. Vanessa made every thing easier and she was wonderful. Enjoyed Least: Although the kittens on site were cute, since we are very allergic to cats, we had to also keep the door closed. It would have been better if there were a few more kitchen items. Limited items like wine glasses, teaspoons etc. We had difficulty finding what was what on the TV and once in a while found English speaking channels, but couldn't seem to get back to them each time. Surrounding Area: It was beautiful. All the agriculture in the area was amazing. Of course the access to wonderful food and wine in Tuscany and Umbria was awesome. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town was Camucia which is just a mile from Cortona. Neither would be reasonably within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: It is necessary to have a car unless you want to cab every day to Cortona. Bring mosquito repellent, as the country setting is full of them. There is a washing machine, but no dryer. Directions: We had a GPS. Check In Out: Check in and Check out went smoothly because of Vanessa (she was great!!!)

Overall: So much more than we expected! Our villa was an oasis nestled above the old world traditional Greek residential village of Melachiori in the center of the island of Santorini. The three bedrooms and full bathrooms, especially shower structures, were over-sized and very private within the structure of our one home. Three couples and more can easily share this villa. Bathrooms are huge. Kitchen areas are adequate. The outside courtyard and pool area and other nooks and crannies are extensive. The housekeeper daily was necessary due to the Greek plumbing issues as well as general daily pick up. The villagers were so friendly and helpful as we visited their restaurants and stores daily. Lovely setting! Enjoyed Most: The location on the island of Santorini. By car, very accessible to the entire island. The village we stayed in was charming, its locals and their neighborhood which we meandered through in the mornings as we walked to the best bakery up the hill. Enjoyed Least: The abundance of cats that live and roam in the village and visit the villa daily. Also, there were issues in the one bedroom bath area with bath water temperature. Surrounding Area: We loved exploring all of the island. There are great beaches, tourist attractions, the restaurants, the historical sites, the views as we navigated around this windy volcanic island. Nearby Events or Locales: Nothing is within walking distance of the village. Driving is easy. Lots of signs and easily navigated. The islanders are very friendly and helpful. Getting lost was part of the adventure! Tips or Restaurants: The restaurants just below the villa are fabulous, fresh, fun with live music and conversation nightly. I would highly recommend the restaurants at the boating and fishing port. The seafood is fresh out of the water and reasonably priced. Directions: Hire a driver to collect you upon arrival to the airport. Rent your car and follow the map. Getting lost is part of the adventure and then you become so familiar with the island you feel like a native. Check In Out: Jackie from the villa rental agency met us at the door upon arrival and departure from the villa. She made herself available throughout our stay if we needed her assistance in any way. Nothing to it!

Overall: This was a perfect place to spend a relaxing week. Close enough to places we wanted to visit, but also lovely to just stay "home" and enjoy the lovely setting! We wanted to just unwind and do a few little day trips - and this was a perfect location for both. The very charming owners live on the property and had stocked the kitchen with basic necessities and enough food for a couple days, as well as some of their wonderful wine, olive oil, and lavender products. Enjoyed Most: The house, setting, and view! The house is very tastefully decorated with antiques, comfortable furniture, a great bed and linens. The kitchen was also very well stocked. The gardens were lovely and we enjoyed walking around them a bit. The little patio off the bedroom overlooking the valley was our favorite spot for a glass or two of wine each evening. The resident cats and dogs are very well behaved and quiet. They knew we liked them and greeted us every time we returned "home"; the kitties joined us for "happy hour" on our patio. (The cats are not allowed in the house, BTW). Also there was no TV! But great WiFi and a CD player with a wide selection of music. Perfect for relaxing. Enjoyed Least: Nothing!! Just a warning that the last 3 miles to the house are an unpaved road and it is quite bumpy. We didn't mind and took it slow, but tried to get home each evening before it got too dark. Surrounding Area: This area of Umbria has gorgeous hills and valleys with lots of tiny ancient towns. Assisi and Perugia is an easy drive away - and we spent 2 days in and around Assisi. We also visited to Cortona (of "Under the Tuscan Sun" fame). Locally we enjoyed Umbertide and Montone. Actually the landscape was so lovely that we tried to take small, back roads around the area just to go slow and absorb the beauty of the area. (However, if you don't like hilly, curvy road, this would not be for you.) Nearby Events or Locales: Montone is the closest small town, and it is not within walking distance unless really like to hike a ways (5 - 6 miles). It is a medieval hill town you can't really drive into the town. Umbertide is a little farther away and has several "supermarkets" with easy parking. There is a handy notebook in the house that lists places like shops, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. Tips or Restaurants: The house was very well stocked. And there was even food there when we arrived! No need to bring a kitchen sponge, dish soap, etc. Restaurants. We didn't eat out at all! We like to cook and stocked up on wonderful pastas, cold cuts, meats, and fresh veggies. The owners have an organic garden available - so we had their fresh tomatoes with fresh mozzarella we bought. Perfect! Directions: Directions on the GPS address brought us right to the gate! Owners supply a remote control for the gate at check-in. Check In Out: Check-in and check-out went very smoothly. The owners are lovely, and we only saw them a couple of times when we were arriving or leaving at the same time. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with them. They both speak excellent English, so no problem there.

Overall: It was simply perfect. The owners were very accommodating. Sonia even brought us eggs from her Mother-in-law's hens. Out every window was a glorious vista. Bob and I are artists and enjoyed plein air painting at the villa and surrounding villages. Driving our stick shift Fiat was a daily adventure on the hilly winding roads. We were fortunate to be there when the vineyard started harvesting the grapes. Sonia invited us to the winery to see the process. We took side trips to Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, Siena, Greve and lots of small villages. Barberino was having a festival when we arrived and Greve the following week. The people were warm and welcoming. The food, wine and beauty of the country-absolutely glorious. The pool was an added benefit. We felt lucky to have chosen Casa del Grano from all the available villas you supplied. Thanks, RentVillas, for your expertise and help in making this vacation a reality. Enjoyed Most: The views from the windows. The grapes were ready for harvesting. There were castles and other buildings , groves of olive trees and we were on top of the hill and could see the town of Barberino from our site. The villa had a huge upstairs with tables and chairs, family room and sitting room with lots of windows (along with 2 bedrooms and a bath) that provided us great space to paint on the few rainy days we had. Enjoyed Least: The thing we liked most and least about the property was the last 3 miles of the road to the property. It was one lane, gravel and rock and rutted. Tough on car and car was always filthy. The good thing about the road was there was very little traffic except the family occasionally which provided great peace and quiet. Surrounding Area: We were centrally located between Siena and Florence which made accessibility to many villages easy. Tuscany is a feast for the eyes. We toured Casa Sola, another beautiful winery, took a cooking class in Impruneta, everything seemed within easy reach. Nearby Events or Locales: Barberino Val d'Elsa. As the crow flies it would have been walkable, but the rocky road from the villa to the paved road and the winding "z" and "s" curves on the paved road would have been a major challenge. Tips or Restaurants: Pack light. The villa has a washer and a rack to dry clothes. No dryer. There was no drain stopper for sink. No A/C but had fan and open windows. There are several restaurants--two with awesome views and friendly wait staff. The grocery is limited but with nice deli for prosciutto, etc. Villages to the north and south have "super stores" and are 5-7 miles from Barberino. We asked everywhere we went where the locals ate and loved their choices. Directions: We were given wrong directions from the Car Rental Agency in Florence to Barberino and got very turned around. We had GPS on our iPhones and a Garmin. We couldn't get a consistent signal on phone. Eventually Garmin worked. It took 3 times as long as it should have. We telephoned Sonia and she got us to Barberino and met us to follow her to the villa. The next day she brought us local maps. Yay! We had WiFi at the villa and were able to get directions. Check In Out: Check in and out were very easy. Sonia spoke enough English we could communicate. She provided maps and information on the area. The wines they produce are very good-as was the olive oil.

Overall: The visit delivered everything we had hoped for - a true Tuscan villa with lots of history and character. Enjoyed Most: Character. Enjoyed Least: Some of the facilities could be improved - kitchen and showers primarily. Surrounding Area: Views, wineries, restaurants, small towns and we were there for the Wine Expos. Nearby Events or Locales: Greve, not really. 3kms away down a steep hill Tips or Restaurants: Time your visit around the wine expo. Try the Private Dining at Santo Stefano up the hill a bit from the property Directions: Yes, used GPS.

Nearby Events or Locales: No car needed. Tips or Restaurants: The Fox. Directions: We were driven to the property.
