Overall: I would recommend this villa without hesitation. We travelled as a couple with 2 young children and my mother-in-law. Overall we had a very good experience. Enjoyed Most: The view is astonishing, the property is squeaky clean, vast, the owners are nice and available. They left information on activities in and around Positano. We liked the nice wine cellar with 10 euro bottles to buy as needed. This was very practical especially on sunday when many shops closed early. The kitchen was well equipped. Enjoyed Least: We only had one set of towels per person. Although we were told that this was standard, we felt that at this price range, just a few extra-towels in a cupboard in case of need would have been appropriate. Surrounding Area: Capri is a must. It is easy to organize day trips from Positano. We enjoyed driving along the coast. Amalfi is also worth to see, as well as is Pompeii. We did a small road-trip more inland in Agerola and through to Furore. The views were stunning. It is a shame that at this time of year, tastings in wineries were less available than earlier in the season. Nearby Events or Locales: The property is inside Positano. One can walk down to the beach and city center, and you can also take the bus (Positano interno). Tips or Restaurants: Restaurants San Vincenzo and Max proved to be very good and welcoming. If you have small children, don't forget to bring baby carriers, as strollers are not practical in the many stairs in the city (that are worth to be taken). Directions: We used a GPS. The owner contacted us 1 day prior to arrival and gave us clear instructions. Someone was waiting for us when we arrived and led us to the property for check in. There's a flight of stair down to the property so, if possible, try to avoid large and/or heavy suitcases.

Overall: The overall experience was very good, however it is not for people who are not physically fit. You are either going up a steep hill or down a steep hill. It was very challenging for our friend who had recently had both hips replaced. Enjoyed Most: The rooms were nicely done. The bedrooms were lovely and the beds comfortable. There was a washing machine and dishwasher. The kitchen was well supplied and the owner was lovely. He gave us a bottle of wine on arrival and visited during the week with a bottle of home made wine. The main street with shopping and restaurants was a 10 minute walk from the house. Enjoyed Least: There was no place to park the car near the house. We had to park on a ledge with no guard rail and a steep climb up from the property. It is not an easy place to drive around for most Americans who are used to wider roads. Surrounding Area: We enjoyed visiting other Tuscan hill towns. In Cortona itself, we enjoyed the restaurants, museums and churches. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town was Camucia, a commercial area with a couple of supermarkets. There is nothing within walking distance of Cortona from where the house is located. Tips or Restaurants: Get in shape before you get there. Consider hiring a driver or taking taxis or public transportation. Be sure to bring washcloths as most European rentals don't provide them. Ask your cell phone provider for details and rates to use your phone in Europe. It is surprisingly reasonable. All the restaurants where we ate were wonderful. Our favorite was Trattoria Toscana. Directions: The directions were perfect. We met your representative, who spoke fairly good English, at her office and she led us to meet the owner who then led us to the house. I suggest that future renters arrive while it is still light. We arrived after dark and it was tough negotiating the road into Cortona. We used our phone GPS all through Italy. Check In Out: It was easy and smooth.

Overall: We had a wonderful stay at Villa Casa Felice. Everything we needed was there and the view was spectacular--as well as the villa itself. The furnishings added character to this villa and the showers and bathrooms were wonderful. Enjoyed Most: The large kitchen where all nine of us in the villa could cook and enjoy our meals and all be together at the same table. Surrounding Area: So beautiful and quiet and a wonderful place to relax with local restaurants which were wonderful to enjoy. Tips or Restaurants: Hair dryers and plugs that work for the villa and your own curling irons etc. They will provide but just easier if you have one in hand. Directions: We were taken to the villa by the owner. We did use a GPS after that. Check In Out: All went very smoothly.

Overall: The property is wonderful. The home is nicely decorated and the rooms are very spacious. We loved the big dining room and large sitting rooms for our big group. The grounds are huge and beautiful and nice for walking around. It's a wonderful location. Enjoyed Most: The scenic location and the big rooms. It was also great that from the upstairs bedrooms you cannot hear any noise going on on the first floor. It was a great place to gather with a big group of friends. Enjoyed Least: The beds are firm. Surrounding Area: The beauty and the tranquility. Nearby Events or Locales: Gambasse Terme is close by (5 minute drive), but not necessarily walking distance. But there is a restaurant and coffee bar just across the street. San Gimignano was about 10-15 minute drive. Tips or Restaurants: The coffee maker takes the little one-use canisters! We brought ground coffee which we could not use. Directions: Those who used GPS did well; Google maps was great when you put in the full address. Those who didn't had trouble finding it. Check In Out: Giulia was there when we arrived and very helpful. Since we brought the wrong kind of coffee she was able to sell us the little pods. But she was not there on our 3rd or 4th days, or when we checked out. We had some laundry in the washer that we could not get to since she was not there and the laundry door was locked. We had to find the caretaker to open it up. There was no one there at check out. We did not know what to do with the garbage.

Overall: We had a very enjoyable week spent at this villa and will return again. Enjoyed Most: This property is very picturesque and just as it was described on RentVillas.com. Enjoyed Least: The parking area and walkway to the villa was not lighted well at night. Surrounding Area: Beautiful views. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The kitchen is not stocked with basics. Bring your own salt, pepper, sugar, oil and spices. Directions: It's difficult to read the signs at night. Find the villa during the daylight hours! Check In Out: Check in went smoothly.

Overall: Check-in and check-out was very smooth. Staff were wonderful and responded quickly to our inquiries and requests. Enjoyed Most: Grounds were lovely with spectacular views. It was well-situated near other small towns and the autostrada. Enjoyed Least: Second bathroom toilet was broken. There was no hot water in the shower. Editor's Note: All repairs have been completed. April, 2015. Surrounding Area: The surrounding area had spectacular views. The lovely town of San Casciano is nearby, with a large grocery and wine store. The Antinori Winery is a five minute drive away in Bargino, definitely worth a tour. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town is Bargino. It would be quite a trek to walk there down a winding, narrow road. Tips or Restaurants: I would bring face cloths because towels are not changed during the week unless you ask. Also, flip flops as the stone floor is cold. For traditional, home-cooked Tuscan food, we really enjoyed Trattoria da Bule in Bargino. Nello in San Casciano was also very good with great service and friendly staff. Directions: The directions to the property were excellent, and once outside Florence, it was easy to find even if we didn't have a GPS. Otherwise, we found the GPS invaluable to find our way to other locations. Check In Out: There were absolutely no issues with check-in check-out.

Overall: Enjoyed it very much. Enjoyed Most: Sharing the Hilton shuttle to Venice proper, free, next door--frequent and very convenient. View of the Giudecca channel boating activity from our apartment was a treat. Internet connection and English news channels were reliable. Enjoyed Least: Kitchen was really only useful for breakfast prep. Breakfast goods provided with the apartment were sub-par -- other than fruit, yogurt, and coffee, we brought our own stuff to eat. Surrounding Area: Quiet, neighborhood environment. No night-life or crowds. Other than Hilton guests and us, very little to no tourists. Nearby Events or Locales: Everything was within walking distance grocery store, small family- owned cafes, tobacco shop, shuttle. More like a village environment. Directions: Directions from Piazzale Roma on the water buses was excellent. No need for a GPS. Check In Out: Felt a little rushed with the check-in guy. Later we worked with another person who was much more thorough in working out our issue (with TV problems).

Overall: We had a great week. Stefano is a gracious host. Enjoyed Most: The view and the veranda/patio by the pool. Also the grounds of the property were neat to walk around in. Surrounding Area: Montecatini Terme was an excellent little town. Nearby Events or Locales: Montecatini Terme. Could be if you don't mind a long walk. Tips or Restaurants: Go to the restaurant that Stefano suggests...the one that is probably 800 meters from the house. Directions: That's a good question. Key is probably to get people to that point right before you have to drive up the narrow road to the property. Definitely get there before night. Check In Out: No, Stefano was great.

Overall: We truly enjoyed the villa. The overall experience was excellent. Enjoyed Most: What we enjoyed the most was the location and the view. Surrounding Area: We loved the town of Ravello, the restaurants, shops and dramatic views. Nearby Events or Locales: Ravello was the nearest town, and was only a short distance away. However it is on a busy road, and I would not suggest waking there. Tips or Restaurants: It is important to rent a car. Also if your flight arrives early in the morning, you need to have a hotel room organized, or you have nowhere to stay, until 2:00 PM check in. Directions: Have a driver to bring you from the airport, and organize a car to be delivered. Check In Out: Yes, our flight arrived early AM, and we could not get into the villa until 2 pm, so we needed to get a hotel room for the time in between. This would be difficult for someone who was unprepared.

Overall: Very nice. We enjoyed the location and amenities of this villa. Elena the service staff was wonderful. The check-in and check-out process was easy. Enjoyed Most: Location. Enjoyed Least: A little noisy early AM with nearby roosters. Nearby Events or Locales: Positano, yes. Tips or Restaurants: La Tagliatta, Da Adolfo Directions: No, GPS directions are easy if meeting at Hotel Agave. Check In Out: Easy.

Overall: Tremendous. Enjoyed Most: Its situation, beautiful architecture, the eclectic selection of bedrooms, the multiple quiet places where people could be by themselves and the delightful housekeeper. Enjoyed Least: A lack of comfortable outdoor seating to sit and watch the extraordinary view - really my only criticism. Surrounding Area: The villa was embedded in the heart of Chianti with numerous wineries and several small villages to explore nearby. Nearby Events or Locales: Radda in Chianti. No, we couldn't walk, but that didn't matter. Tips or Restaurants: Rent a 4-wheel drive car to access the steep dirt road (1 km) leading up to the villa. Our front-wheel drive car struggled to maintain traction. Check In Out: The housekeeper made it very easy.

Overall: Overall, we had a great time. Good location, good facilities, although a few maintenance issues. Great for the 9 people we had there at the peak, including 2 young kids. Enjoyed Most: The location, close to many interesting sights. The fact that all bedrooms had en-suite bathrooms. Good shopping including supermarkets, etc a few minutes away. Good WiFi, lots of hot water. Great views from the large terrace to the hillside village. Enjoyed Least: The road in and out is very narrow, one lane, a problem if you meet someone coming the other way. The en-suite bathrooms, except for the main bedroom, were all small, and separated from each bedroom by a flimsy curtain. There were mildew stains in some bathrooms. In the kitchen, there was chipped crockery and the fridge door needs repairing, as does the oven door. Editor's Note: The owner addressed maintenance issues in winter 2014 in preparation for the 2015 season. March 2015 Surrounding Area: Lots to see within an hour or so driving. Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Aix-en-Provence, Pont-du-Gard, Orange, St-Remy-de-Provence, the Luberon, etc. Great markets at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (Sunday), and Carpentras (Friday). Nearby Events or Locales: Saumane-de-Vaucluse is a few minutes walk away, although it is small, very quiet, no shops, the one restaurant closes from September to March. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a few minutes drive away, a busy town with all facilities, including a fabulous market on Sundays (get there early to be able to park) Tips or Restaurants: Only arrive in a small car, as the road in and out is exceedingly narrow. Plenty of restaurants in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, plus a couple of good ones in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, just around the corner. Directions: We came from Avignon using our GPS which bypassed L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, so we missed vital landmarks noted in the directions, and hence got totally lost. There is no sign indicating the property when you arrive, except for a small no. 64 in the driveway. Check In Out: We didn't like having to send one security deposit to the UK and pay another deposit on arrival.

Nearby Events or Locales: Olgiasca; yes. Directions: Key holder met us at meeting point.

Overall: We had a great time at this property. Enjoyed Most: The views. The caretaker was delightful even though her English was limited. She had provisioned the refrigerator with bottled water, eggs, butter, a couple of beers and cokes which had we known about we wouldn't have bought for ourselves prior to our arrival. She also had a lovely bowl of fruit for us as well. Terraces were great, plenty of seating a table and the views! Enjoyed Least: the train. we got used to it by the end of our stay but it took awhile. I was glad I had earplugs for sleeping. It is something we noticed everywhere we went. The trains are excellent and well used because they are conveniently located and run through towns so lots of people live within earshot of the train. I suppose it's part of being there. Surrounding Area: The nearby towns of Lesa, Stresa, Arona, Meina were all lovely. In Stresa we went to Isola Bella, an island with a palace and beautiful gardens. North of Stresa we found another garden, Giardini di Villa Taranto, which we had been to 25 years ago. We spent some time in Como, near Turin and in Milano as we ventured out from our immediate surroundings a lot. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Lesa, downhill toward the lake or uphill to Massino Visconti, neither really within walking distance unless you have a lot of time. Tips or Restaurants: Property was well equipped. Directions: It is a windy ride with lots of twists and sharp turns which we mastered by the end of our stay but it posed quite the challenge in the beginning. We did not have GPS. Check In Out: Check in and check out worked fine for us.

Overall: We had a wonderful week at Certaldo 4. The villa was lovely, comfortable and immaculate. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and maintained. Sylvia, the property manager, took wonderful care of us and was always extremely helpful. Enjoyed Most: The property was large with incredible landscaping, flowers, trees etc. The path to the large pool and the pool itself was lovely. The view from this villa high in the hills was spectacular. Enjoyed Least: There was a long unpaved, winding and hilly road to get to the villa that was filled with deep potholes and blinding curves. The couch in this villa was really a daybed and very uncomfortable for sitting. Surrounding Area: The villa is located between Florence and Siena and is within reasonable driving distance to both of these cities as well as to other Tuscany towns. Nearby Events or Locales: Fiano was the closest town. It was very small and offered very little and is not in walking distance. Certaldo, a much larger city, was about 4 miles away. It has a wonderful large market (COOP) where you can get whatever you need. The city itself has shops and restaurants as well as an old walled city that has a few lovely restaurants. Directions: We came from Florence to Certaldo. Directions given by the villa were good. Unfortunately we used our GPS, which was not working properly-- and that prolonged our trip.

Overall: The property is amazing, in the country (2 adorable small towns less than 5 km in either direction) on the other side of the mountains from Tuscany. Less traveled, less touristy, great quiet getaway in the real Italy. My wife insisted we were not in the right place, because it could not be a castle we are staying in! Her family originally came from Cagli, so a very wonderful experience for her. Several times she ordered a drink or dish that was supposed to be local, and then broke into tears when she tasted... just like the special food and drink she had growing up! Enjoyed Most: Rooms are filled with antiques, and the gardens are amazing it feels like your are staying in a castle. It is really 4 apartments in a very large house, that was remodeled to look like a castle over a hundred years ago. Excellent for 2 couples (as we were) or a small family in one apartment a larger family can rent out up to four apartments looking for a little space for each group. Lovely gravel courtyard in front with tables and chairs for group gatherings. You could also move tables and chairs up into the gardens for big meals out doors. They are talking about building a pool, so hope it is done the next time we go back (for sure!). Enjoyed Least: Maybe the kitchen, not many supplies and small but very standard for European homes, so this is more just to prepare you! If you want American stay in a big hotel in Florence. Surrounding Area: Location and access to many places in central Italy. Fano and Perugia are very close, and it is a day trip if you want to struggle with the crowds in Tuscany. There is a Monastery nearby that is very old, Hermitage of Fonte Avellana. The fort in Cagli is supposed to have sculptures it was not open the few times we checked, but we were off season. I am sure if we had spent a little time in the square, we would have found the person with the key! We did see a couple museums in nearby towns in Google Maps, but did not make it. Nearby Events or Locales: Smirra was once a town itself, and is right outside your gate. It is really a 'suburb' of Cagli 5km to the south and the address is actually Cagli. The home of Truffles in Italy is 5km North in Acqualagna. Cagli and Aqualagna have excellent restaurants and groceries at a store called Conad in Cagli also a Eurospin a little higher end and a little harder to find. Tips or Restaurants: The Bar Turismo Snc Di Magnoni Romolo Falconi Iride in Cagli and the Osteria Del Parco Di Samuele Ferri in Aqalagna are both a must and the bars and gelato shops in the square of Cagli were all very good! Both are only open noon-3pm or after 7pm (and no-one shows up until 8...). Try any place that looks interesting they are small towns with few tourists they would not survive if they had bad service or quality. We asked for the owner to hire us a chef to teach us how to cook Italian and we made home-made pasta so much fun and enough pasta for 3 meals! The Conad grocery store is on your right, just before you get to into old town Cagli, not open very late so check the hours. Directions: No improvements. You must really use a GPS to get around in small towns in Italy, but the Villa was VERY easy to find, right on the main road, just look for the the top of a castle from the square in Smirra! Call the manager before you get there so she can meet you. The back gate (actually a huge wooden door) is just off the main square and always locked, but the manager is a block away, and you will only use it when you check in. The main entrance (which opens to a long tree lined drive in a huge garden!) is down the road a ways and on a remote control, which they have several of once you check in. Check In Out: Make sure you call one of the managers as you get near Smirra, or from the back gate since she lives up the street. We did not call but luckily knocked on the right door! We were there off-season and the owners drove up from Rome, so we had a nice tour and history of the property. The owners spoke English very well, managers not as much (as in all of the area, so brush up on your travelers Italian), but we always figured out what we needed and were very eager to please, then left us to ourselves. You can call their cell or the phone in the villa with button marked 'reception'.

Overall: We enjoyed a very memorable 9 days at Villa Senese. The property is gorgeous, with an honorable history, fantastic views and accommodations. The owner is very gracious and helpful. Enjoyed Most: Gorgeous property and views. Wonderful owner and staff. On-site winery. Enjoyed Least: Catering cost is separate from the property rental. Surrounding Area: The property is about 5 km from the heart of Siena (if you do not get lost), and about 40 km from San Gimignano. Nearby Events or Locales: Ponte Bozzone is within walking distance. Its two restaurants are fantastic. Check In Out: The directions stated check out at 9 am, and we prepared to leave by then... except the staff hadn't arrived yet. Apparently, it was news to them that the check out was then. On the positive side, the owner wanted us to stay for an extra day without charge. The problem was that many of us had planes to catch.

Overall: Very good. Enjoyed Most: Quiet, quaint, and centrally located for many rewarding day trips. Didn't have to worry about not getting sleep after long days sight seeing. Enjoyed Least: Musty odor from a storage cellar on lower level; we bought some air fresheners to combat this. Surrounding Area: Very quiet village, and easy access to Lucca or Pisa. Nearby Events or Locales: Santa Maria del Giudice. Within walking distance. Very friendly mini mart close by. Tips or Restaurants: Might want to bring some food, as the mini mart (although very friendly) isn't always available. Besides, there is a standard size refrigerator. Check In Out: After calling property owner and setting a time, we sat at the gate for some time before being greeted by a relative. Didn't get good instructions on how to work anything in the apartment, where to take garbage, etc.

Overall: Lovely villa. Enjoyed Most: Location- close to bus station and high up. Enjoyed Least: It might be nice to have specifics on stores in areas (local grocery) vs. info provided verbally-- we weren't processing everything due to level of fatigue! The amount of steps to/from villa is VERY difficult for some people- our group was fine but needed a porter to get our luggage up the steps at end of trip. Banging suitcases down the steps was also trying--might have a porter there when people check in--ask if you want one. It is a hike! Surrounding Area: Capri and Sorrento, Ravello. Nearby Events or Locales: Positano Tips or Restaurants: Cooking class was great Buca de Beccas, though pricey. I like the "local" scoop/info vs. being trapped as tourists and paying outrageous prices. Considering cost of villa, local info would help, and not just business cards but the real deal. Where does the owner go?? Directions: Had driver. Check In Out: All good. Carmela accommodated us by checking out the night prior due to early flight.
